How do you tune a train horn?

My k5hl seems to be out of tune. When I bought it all the bells would ring at the same exact time and now only two come on then a third one and lastly two more. I can hear the diffrence because I have a manual metering valve. Is there a way to tune them? At full flow they all ring.
Thanks to all

^ Has the pitch of them changed any? It doesn’t sound to me like they are out of tune. Different size horns will have the diaphragms start to vibrate at different pressures. As long as they sound good and in tune at full flow, I wouldn’t worry about it.

They all sound good. Just that they all came on at the same time. But now they all diffrent unless at full flow.

^ That a pretty normal deal though from my experience.

Have you always used a manual valve? Or are you saying they would all sound when you had a solenoid valve and now that you have a manual valve they sound at different times?

I’ve only ever had that manual GW valve. And when I first got the horns the bells would all sound at the same time as soon as they received air. The guy I bought them from said maybe tighten the rear caps a little more on the bells that are ahead.

^ Once they are tight, they are tight. You could check to see if they are still tight I guess. If you remove the bolts put some blue thread lock on them.

Hmmmm. Have you changed the pressure?

Altho I think it’s normal for the bells to sound off in steps as you open the valve, it does sound odd that they have changed the way they sound off providing nothing has been changed in your setup.

^ I agree. There has to be a variable in there somewhere if the bells still sound the same at wide open…

Oh. Problem solved. The screws had anti seize but were a little lose so I backed them out put blue locktite on them and tighend them all up again. They’re not as bad now but still not the same as they were. But I will settle for that.

^ Happy medium? ha ha
