Thinking about getting some Hornblasters Outlaw horns and I was wondering how illegal train horns are in the state of Maryland? What kind of trouble can you get in for using them for their “intended purpose” as a warning device. Thanks
Welcome to the forum!
I can’t answer that question I’m afraid as I am across the pond, but I am sure someone will be along at some point soon with an answer for you:D
Why not bite the bullet & get the Shockers?
Don’t have the extra $135 difference between the two. Believe me, I would love to get the shockers.
If your end game is to own Shockers, you should consider the Rockers instead of the Outlaw. At least that way you can just get the extra two horns to make up a full Shocker set later on without having to buy all new horns again.
Good point. However, I like the sound of the outlaw kit more than the rockers. I was considering them but now that you mention that, it could chance my mind depending on how much the 1 and 4 trumpet will cost along with the line and connections.
It’s easy for me to say, but I’d sell my grandmother for the extra £135 dollars or wait a little longer & save up! Well worth it!
If you do get pulled over tell them you were using it to warn somebody of something so that the ticket will just be for improper use of horn will be a lot cheaper ticket, Also don’t just be blasting it all the time that’s how you get caught. cause some one is gonna call it in if they wanna be tool about it. I haven’t had problems with them in Wisconsin
Each region and country is different but there is pretty much a common theme amongst them - basically your horn shouldn’t be unreasonably loud. It is always as vague and ambiguous as that. It’s never illegal to own a train horn , period! It’ll be the usage that they get you on - and there are plenty of different infringements that any officer can throw at you if they want.
Basically, like Train Ranger said - don’t be an idiot with them, otherwise expect someone from the law enforcement department to give you a hard time eventually.
Here’s a cop forum thread that’s pretty good to read regarding the attitude you’ll encounter. Some don’t mind - others will hunt you down

I do my best to stay out of MD due to their stupid gun laws.
I do venture to MIR for some drag races, and Budd’s Creek for some MX races…with how stupid the gun laws are (IMO), I would imagine you’d do prison time for trainhorns.
Okay so it seems like I would be okay for a while as long as I don’t go around and blowing them for no reason. Thanks for the advice!
You say you like the outlaw sound more, but how did you check this? Shockers are very loud in person. Best option is to save a little more and buy the kit later. You won’t regret it.
And in my country there is no maximum dB level for horns, but if a cop sees me using the horn I will get fined for sure  that’s why I don’t use it often.
True. I am starting to lean towards the rocker kit now. Those do sound better and I can upgrade down the road to the shockers. That seems like the best way to go from this pint in time. They are easier to mount than the outlaws for sure and sons more like the shockers without having the other 2 trumpets.
Over here too there does not appear to be a max dB level for horns either, there is for engines & exhausts! And I have had the police pull up beside me & ask me to give them a cheeky blast, to which I happily obliged!
But drive around your local village horning every Tom, Richard & Harry and you are asking to get nicked for something!!!
I’ve had my horns a blastin most of the summer. I have a bunch of red necks that drive loud vehicles, including bikers, I always give them a blast. No problem with cops, but I am sort of careful when I blast em.
Seeing as how america is rife with hornblasters (not like the UK where very few have even heard of these horns) blasting their loud horns, I wouldn’t be suprised if they created a law just for hornblasters lol. Here in the UK there’s no upper db limit to your horns (only a minimum requirement) with it being a single or dual tone (not to be confused with single or dual notes). You could only (though it’s very unlikely) perhaps get into a tad bit of trouble for improper use (which anyone with a stock horn can technically do any time they honk out of rage), loitering in an area blaaaaasting your horn probably counts as noise pollution or disturbing the peace though I’d imagine. Oh and honking during curfew hours (11pm-7am here in the UK, but that wont stop me, hehe).
Perhaps you should ensure you have a stealth setup. Ultimately, when you have these horns on your car/truck, you rule the road and answer to no-one.
what kind of a vehicle are you installing them on? I have my K3’s On my Honda And 99% of the time NO ONE looks my way lol! They think it is a train or a big truck Me personally, I would save up and get the shockers!
I’m installing them on a Chevy avalanche. I’m probably going to get the rockers for now then upgrade later down the road
Great choice, contact HornBlasters & they will sort you out.
^ +1
You won’t be disappointed, plus you’ll have that easy upgrade path to go bigger. When you talk to HornBlasters, see if they’ll upgrade you to the 1/2" valve instead of the 3/8" - the cost difference should be minimal and I’m sure if you mention that you’re a forum member, they’ll look after you with a good deal ;).
That way you’re ready to rock when it’s time to add those extra two horns for a full XL set (i.e. all you’ll need is the 4 port banjo, some tubing + the 1 & 2 horn)
Thanks for the advice!!
