How to paint and how to drill out k5la's

Well I’ve got a new car so im moving my k5la’s to the roof. There was a guide on it here someware. Search didn’t find much.

Also there was a mod were u can drill out the k5la’s to get them louder I couldn’t find this either.

But new rig will go from 5gal to 15gal. So may as well make the most of it.

Why would you want them louder? They’re loud enough. I believe that if you just make them louder it’s just stupid. Honestly there is no need to have these horns in the first place but we do and you need to respect that the law even allows us to put these on our car. Don’t make them louder.

So technically they are against the law as is… Only approved for X vehicle types … So arguing that is moot

One of the hallmarks of the Nathan K series Airchime is their efficiency - high volume at low air pressures. Drilling them out will only make them consume more air. The level of ‘perceived’ loudness probably won’t change much from a bystander perspective since they’re so incredibly loud already.

You’d be reducing their efficiency, reducing their value (since the mod cannot be repaired or reversed) and reducing the life of the nozzles and diaphragms. Honestly… not sure why you’d want to do all that, but meh - each to their own.

Maybe he’s speaking of the air restrictor found in some k5’s and even P5’s, that were OTR designed for vehicles on the road to reduce the noise produced from them.

^ This.

There are two types of Nathan AirChimes … the actual ones from a locomotive, and the OTR version for semi-trucks and the like.

The OTR version can be drilled out with a 4mm drill bit. I’d recommend searching for “4mm drill” here on the forum to help find that thread.

As for painting them, use a self-etching primer after you’ve stripped them down to bare metal. A couple light coats of this will do the trick … search for “self-etching primer” on here and you’ll find those threads, too.

Cheers guys sorry thought I had a email notifications enabled.

Why do i want them louder well why not. I know some models have reducers on the intake.

I found/saved the thread but it’s on a work pc. Yes it will drop there value but here in aus I doubt it will make any real difference as there isn’t any to choose from.
