Okay first I must appologize, this is my first train horn kit and did not have the funds together to support hornblasters.com. I ordered a kit from ebay see here:
and before it arrives would like to know how to approach the wiring of this kit. I am sure the instructions will be a sentce or two with maybe one diagram but I am reaching out to those that have experience installing these kits for guidance. I would like to ultimately have the ability to switch between stock and horns and can visit a radio shack for the extra components. I have already narrowed down a mounting area just need to know what gets wired to what. Thanks in advance.
welcome! just letting you know…you will be very disapointted with those…that compressor only pushes about 15 psi to the horns. most shockers are ran at 150psi with an air tank. wiring is easy with a spdt switch
don’t know how much pressure they can handle but they will be very loud… just before the hoses come off the horns. (no barbs to grip the hose) I know, I tried them before just for fun.
if you’re really tight on budget, get a $20 psychoblaster and a 110psi tank/compressor combo on ebay. should be much louder than those…
okay i can work with the hose fittings. Do i need the tank? Can i just add lets say like a viair 400c compressor instead of those two that come in the kit. Forgive my ignorance on this.
You do need a separate tank. Viair compressors are not designed to be cycled on and off on a on-demand basis. They are also reciprocal compressors, not rotary or scroll, which means the output is in bursts. You’d have to hook up a valve, and allow the line from the compressor to the horns to pressurize: without a reserve tank, it would only give you a second or so of sound.
I understand now, thanks for all the input. I sold my wifes mountain bike LOL and ordered another Kit that has big boy 3 trumpets 1.5 gallon tank and a 150 psi compressor for under 200 bucks. I will put the other kit on my wifes car and maybe not tell her.
