Installers?

hi folks,

I am new to this and have a few questions…

I have my eye on a K3LA on ebay ( i am sure some of you have seen them) what is the worst case if I buy and need to rebuild them money wise? The guy says their decent (not excellent) in the ad and also says “as is”. it’s the as is that worries me, but the price seems acceptable.

Also, I live here in Agoura Hills, North / West Los Angeles county, any known installers out here known to any of you?

Thanks

More questions… I just looked at the viair 20001 kit i got and this is gonna be dumb but I count 6 Bungs on this tank…

1 for the condensation bleeder
1 for relief valve
1 in from compressor
1 to pressure switch
1 to gauge in truck cab

that’s 5 so far if my public school math is correct!

Does that really leave one bung for my rear air bags, horn, and a spot to plug the air hose in for doing tires and what not? Don’t I need two more bungs? are their manifolds for this? do I need another tank to plumb in?

What gives? Anyone who feels it’s better to speak to another human being than type, feel free to call and talk me in off this ledge!

Couple things…

  • The 6 ports are 1/4" NPT. For a K3 you really want 1/2" NPT ports/bungs for proper air flow (louder).
  • The pressure switch is 200psi. Most people say 200psi can damage the Nathan internals. So you want either a 150psi pressure switch or a regulator.
  • As people responded in your other thread, you’d get a couple seconds but it will fade fast.

Honestly I’d get a 5 gallon tank with 8 - 1/2" ports. But if you don’t, you can use ‘tees’ to split your ports. Just give the horn it’s own port. And don’t put the compressor and pressure switch on the same port.

I can’t find the price of Nathan diaphrams & cushions online right now. They’re like $40-45 per horn. Depending on what you get, you might be able to just flip the diaphrams.

“Acceptable” Depends on what an “Acceptable” price is for the horns in the shape they are in… you have to figure if the rings and diaphram need replacing, its going to cost you about $45/ea to replace them. From hornblasters it is like $17.50 for the diaphram and the rubber rings are $15/ea (You need 2 rings and 1 diaphram for each horn)

Unfortunately I do not know of any installers, I’ve installed all of my horns so I didn’t have to pay to have them installed.

The K3 is an AIR HOG… it requires a ton of air movement, so 1/4" NPT ports is going to seriously degrade the sound of them. I actually have two - 1/2" ports used just for my K3 and it sounds great, and another 1/2" port going to my shockers.

Thanks Guys,

I took heed of what you all said and am going with a 5 gallon tank with 8 ports, two 480 compressors and the K3LA. Should be an adequate set up huh?

General consensus on these, any advice?

I think I paid something around that for mind…
