Just bought a used K-5 from a guy and had to drive a while to get. When i got it home noticed that there was 2 number 4 bells. The biggest is a 1L then 2 then nothing on the 3rd bell and the last two say #4 and are the same size. Just wondering what that is going to do to the sound? I havent blew it yet but will tomm…
try an look at this. it helps me sometimes

there are not supposed to be two #4 bells…
the bell that has nothing on it might be a number 1 bell, cause i heard that they didn’t sometimes print letting on the 1’s. is that bell larger than the #2 bell?
so all together i think you have… (#1L, #1, #2, #4, #4) and the notes are
(C, D#,F#, C, C)
so basically you bought a K5HL, and what your supposed to have is,
(#1L, #1, #2, #3, #4) with the notes of (C, D#, F#, A#, C)
basically im just going off what the web site says…a horn veteran will come around an help you out more.
Yea I had been looking at at that site also. Everything is correct from longest to shortest. 1L,2, no number where the 3 should be but the length is correct, and it has two number 4’s which I know is probley not correct. Do i need to find me a #5 and get rid of one of the #4’s?
Sorry everyone i had it wrong. from longest to shortest i have a 1L, the next says nothing, #2 and two #4’s… one of my 4’s is stamped A…
So the one with no marking is bigger than the #2 and smaller than the 1L…it’s a #1.
Assuming a low mount manifold:
To make a K5LLA you need to replace the 4 with a 3a.
To make a K5LL you need to replace the 4a with a 3.
EDIT: I would try the thing first though. See if you like it.
Welcome to the forum.
Thanks everyone for the help. I also contacted a man who sells and deals with these everyday. He is going to sendme a #3 bell trade for one of my #4s. I pulled both the #4s off and blew them separate and herd no diffrence in them even though one of them was stamped A. I did blow the horn today and it did not quite sound melodic. I think once i get that #3 bell i will be good…
Then I keep the casting stamped “a” and the best diaphrams.
Ideally, you want a 3a from him to go with your 4a.
Exactly, thanks for the help…
