Ordering a K3HA tomorrow and my only two options for install locations while utilizing the Nathan manifold is either in my spare tire location, not too excited about that as I’d have to keep my spare in my bed, or inside my tool box, I measured and it’ll fit. Whichever way I install it I’ll be cutting 3 holes and riveting expanded metal over them for the bells, would i be better off facing the bells forward towards the front wall of the bed or back? and has anyone done this before?
I would point them towards the tailgate. I would imagine it will sound the same as horns mounted under the toolbox. I think if you would face them towards your cab It would muffle it. Unless you would keep a gap between the toolbox and front of the bed.
I’m curious to see the end result, if I’m imagining it as you described it will be completely unseen. Except for 3 round expanded metal holes in your toolbox.
I want to have an easy way to unbolt my tool box and remove it without having to unhook a lot of wiring and air lines or worry about setting my toolbox down on an expensive set of horns, as of right now i’ve already got one of these http://www.etrailer.com/Wiring/Pollak/PK12800.html for my power wires to my compressors and a 5 flat connector for my horn solenoid, drain valve and keyed hot to my relays
Sweet, sounds like you got a good plan going! I had to bookmark that plug for future reference, I’ve never seen one that style before
They also make one that’s a single pole that’s rated to 300 amps, I’ve got one of those on my front and back bumper for a jumper cable hookup, they’re mostly used on tractor trailers that have either a reefer unit or hydraulic lift gate
I used to have my whole setup in a toolbox I’d say face them towards the tailgate for sure. You won’t get the full scare of people in front of you but you’ll sure be loud beside and behind your truck.
It’s quite convenient to be able to take out a couple bolts and disconnect a couple wires to have your entire air system out. Especially if you play musical trucks like me.
The whole musical trucks thing is going to apply to me in about a month, plan on buying a newer f-350 and don’t want to have to buy a whole new setup for that truck. When you had yours installed in the tool box did you do anything to allow the sound to escape like I’m doing?
I had a plastic box with the horns hanging underneath.
Like so
Towards the tailgate for sure.
This does take up some cargo area and depending on how you use your truck it may not work for you but could be another option.
My toolbox is aluminum Diamond plate, I measured it and they’ll fit in the thing and I’ll cut some holes, i guess in the rear side of the thing to let the sound out and cover the holes with expanded metal. and it’s too deep for me to have them hanging below or to the side, only 4-5 inches all the way around.
