K3LA sounds muffled

Ok people, need some help here.

I have a K3LA setup under my Cadillac SRX, for some odd reason, when I blow, they don’t sound like they did when I had them in my Dodge Ram.

My setup is as follows:
I run 3 Viair 480c which each independently feeds to my 15 gallon tank.
My output is a single 1/2" solenoid which connects to a 1/2" line that feeds a 5 port manifold, which in turn feeds each of the 3 bells independently at 200 psi.

Now, I have tested my solenoid and it works perfectly in opening and closing. What i don’t get is this, when I go to blow, i get a muffled sound as if they are not getting enough air. I have taken them down and inspected them, cleaned them up. I have even changed the diaphragms and rubbers in all with brand new ones.

This is almost the exact same setup I had in my truck with the exception of a bigger tank and an additional compressor.

I have dudes with those poompy $100.00 dollar horns  killing me on the streets  and its like I have a covering over my bells when I blow . I have taken into consideration that the space in my wheel well is not as big as it was in my truck and ground clearance is not the same but there has got to be something seriously wrong here for my horns to sound the way they do.

Any and all comments are welcomed in assisting with a fix. Thanks in advance

Have you checked the manifold for air loss? Since it’s a 5 port, you could be losing air at that point and wouldn’t know it.

If the horn openings are too close to something on the car they will sound quieter and muffle the sound. Post a pic of how they are mounted.

^^^ what he said! If the bell end of the Horn is too close to something the Horns will not sound properly and will be muffled.

I agree about the obstruction … but some pics. Check the lines (output at the manifold without the horns) to make sure they are flowing heaps of air.

I’d also look at installing a regulator to drop the pressure a bit. I’ve got both 100psi regulated and 200psi unregulated and the IMHO the K3 sounds a lot better at 100 with very little loss in volume. At very high pressures they don’t tend to resonate properly and if there’s any nozzle damage then that could just compound the problem.

^^bingo…i have the same problem with my k3 being right behind my front bumper. Doesn’t bother me tho…
