i got a K5la from tom aker last week…looks awesome, but sounds crappy… ive cleaned the horn pretty good…but its not very loud…the diaphrams r all in good condition…the horn doesnt sound musically…its just noise… what kinda problems do they have??or a k5la needs some special bell boring to sound good…
its the 1 2 3a 4a 5 bells
i fixed the problem with help from the horn whistle forum…if anyone needs serious sound help…they r the people to get help from… turns out the torque on the back screws on k3,k5s determine the preload the diaphrams have…so adjusting the torque on the screws will make the note change a little.but more importantly,it determines the starting order of the horn…i have my 1-2…then 4,then 3-5…so at first it honks low and loud…when 4bells comes in it sounds like a k3la…then 3-5 blow to give the power chord of the K5LA…knowing that about Nathans is f#$ken awesome
I believe that’s a myth. I own a K horn and have never been able to “tune” them by adjusting the backcaps. They are supposed to be completely tightened. I’d be careful leaving the caps loose as you could deform your diaphragms. I’m sure what is wrong with your horn is the same thing wrong with every other newer K horn. It has a couple of bells that need a trip down to the “Horn Hospital” for surgery (boring out the nozzles or whatever needs done to them).
