leader hose/check valve

So a while back i bought a 480c compressor and it came with the leader hose and check valve. My question is the check valve is suppose to stop air from coming back through the line…right? The one i have you can blow on it from both ends and the air goes threw. So its not working then right?

Im no expert, but it may allow low psi to go through. I think Ive read somewhere that you can only blow up to 5psi ± 2psi. and on a scale of 150 to 200, thats relatively low. But lance or Dan can give you the correct answer hopefully.

I was thinking the same thing.
You might not be able to physically blow hard enough to ‘seat’ the valve.

I’m no expert either but a check valve should only let air flow in one direction. Once the mechanism is open I don’t know what pressure is needed from the other direction to close it.

Ok, that helps alot. Im re-doing my enitre air set up due to the fact that i tried taking out some of my fittings from my tanks and they snaped off…so im getting a new 8.5 gallon tank. And my orginal hoses didnt have the check valves.

on my Viair, you should not be able to blow air back up the leader hose. The check valve on mine has a spring that close it shut without any air pressure.

When i tried it, it wasnt hooked up to the compressor, I just had the hose in my hand. Ill have to try hooking it up once and trying it.

mine is the same way. you can not blow air back through it

Is that hooked up to the compressor? If so, you probably couldn’t blow much (if any) past the ring seal anyway.

But if that’s seperate from the compressor, then it’s definitely the check valve doing it’s job.

Well i ordered 1 from HB so when it comes i will compare it to the other one and see if its working or not.

So im about to hook up my system, and i have a stupid questions. Should i put the plummers tape around the leader hose where it goes into the compressor? I know it should be used every where else but i wasnt sure on this spot.

You shouldn’t have to because that’s a high pressure fitting … just make sure it’s tight but don’t pull a Bullwinkle with the wrench.

i had the same problem get with lance and he should send you a new one if your still under warranty!
