Leslie RSL-3L air pressure

Hi guys, a while ago I acquired a Leslie RSL-3LR off ebay. I found that constantly screwing and unscrewing a hose from the base really did wear and tear on the threads. The threads got so bad, that the horn would hardly blow at 120psi due to all the air leaking out. I since have gotten a prime base, and mounted the 3 bells on to assemble a RSL-3L design. I now have a quick release 3/8" connector screwed to the base, and then connect to the 3/8" hose. I only have a 6 gallon porter cable compressor/tank assembly. The tank is rated for 150, but the safety is broken, so I never take it above 135ish psi. Even with that pressure, only two of the three bells sound. Do I need more pressure or a bigger volume hose? I see horn blasters has a 3/8" hose but with 1/2" fittings. Thanks guys. Hope to get a video up at some point.

Welcome to the forum.

3/8" i.d. rubber hose or 3/8" o.d. tubing? 3/8" i.d. should be enough, but 3/8" tubing is probably 1/4" i.d.

And those quick couplers can be a major restriction unless you specifically found one that is high flow.

I believe it’s a goodyear hose, but it does say 3/8" on the hose. What could you recommend for connection? I know from reading that a 5 gallon tank is hardly enough for a leslie horn, more so for a nathan k series. Thanks for the reply!

Seems like I heard of a couple guys using some sort of garden hose connection. Easily screws together & high flow.

I know McMaster Carr has all kinds of quick couplers.

Since it’s a different base, I’d make sure there isn’t some obstruction affecting that horn.

What is the thread size of the inlet in the base?

Pics might help.

the quick release coupling (like you use for air tools) is VERY small. i have teh same horn and it would barely sound at 150 psi with a similar fitting when i was testing them in my shop
