I installed a set of s-3L I think they are, I have all 1/2 line to the horns, with a 110/145 pressure switch. I honked them prolly 20 times then took my truck to get washed and it sounds like only one trumpet is blowing? It’s only the high pitch one working, this was all 2 days ago, I took the big horn apart and it all looked fine, considering I don’t know exactly know what its supposed to look like anyway, what do yall think
Welcome. Check your solenoid valves and their electrical connections for water. If that isn’t the issue these other guys can probably help.
Thanks, ya that’s a good idea, I remember my connections at the valve I kinda half assed
I was also wondering what kind of effect having my pressure switch on the bottom of the tank would have I don’t know how easily they get clogged up, I have an old tank.
Having the pressure switch on the bottom is asking for trouble. The gunk inside the tank will find its way into the switch. That could cause it to fail or change its parameters.
What he said ^^^^^^^ water will sit inside it and rust!
Maybe your not getting the pressure you think you are? Do u have a gauge?
Leslies are really fickle but as long as you didn’t accidentally blow some dirt in there it should be okay (if only water got in it). If dirt and stuff got behind the diaphragm or around it, you need to take it apart and clean it as it could cause damage to the nozzles or diaphragms that you won’t be able to fix (unless you have access to a lathe and know the correct specs on it)
Guys I really appreciate all of the advice, I do have a gauge, at the valve I have 145, I’ve taken the horns apart twice, I’m goin to go through them tomorrow 100% and try to put some pics, agian thanks for the help yall
Make sure the rubber ring around the diaphragms is intact… you don’t want to have to buy new ones as the aftermarket ones are too thick and have to be shaved down and from leslie they are almost 200 a piece. If there’s a tear or anything, you can usually fix them with a little silicone.
I guess that’s the answer then, there aren’t any rubber rings gaskets or anything its just aluminum bolted together
Could you send a picture of the power chambers? The older Leslie’s didn’t have a gasket around the diaphragms. I assumed it was an RS horn but it could be an S. It should look similar to this…
Ya they look similar to that there are a couple flat head screws that hold the medal ring in. I’ll take some pics tomorrow
Must be an S horn. The RS has the big spikes sticking out of the back of the power chambers. The S horns have flat head screws inside like you’re talking about and there should be a rivet underneath all of that. Sometimes that can work lose and cause the horn to not sound right. I know a guy who can fix them all back to original factory condition if you want to PM me.
I got ahold of Tom aken he’s sending me some gaskets so I should be in buisness by the end of the week
So I got new gaskets installed it still doesnt sound just right. One of my power chambers has jb weld on the back so prolly needs to be replaced, but tonight I was gunna honk em for the guy I bought them from. My system has a small leak I haven’t messed with them for about a week, so the system had to fill from 0, it took like 10 min I realized something wasn’t cutting the compressor off. I had to cut the ground wire to kill it, no telling how much psi was in the tank, when I honked them they sounded amazing. Sorry for the long story, but am I not running enough psi @145 for the horns? I belive they are Leslie s-3L (1968)
