Installin Train horns…Rather than mounting this big viair grey box pressure switch on my tank, which is in plain view…can i put the pressure switch on the end of an air hose ran from the tank…out of view? Thanks
the pressure switch goes in the tank not in the air line…
Thanks for the quick reply…it 100% has to go on the tank? i cant put it a couple feet away from the tank?
i dont see why it wouldnt work on an air line
Thats a good question… i dont see how it would hurt it to mount it a couple feet away to get it out of view. Its still going to have the same pressure, so i’d say it will work.
he means make an extra air line go from the tank to the pressure switch
Cool thanks guys…ill be sure to post pictures of my install when im done
ohhhhhhhhh i tought he says putting it on the compressor lol… well like the other guys says… i don’t see why not
I put mine in the air line between the compressor and the tank. works just fine.
do u mean the braided stainless line? which end did you put it on?
the tank is under the car so I extended the leader hose and added fittings that tee-off to the pressure switch and black air line going to the tank.
You can put the pressure switch wherever you want. As long as its attached the tank and can sense pressure it’ll work just fine.
The only concern with remotely mounting it is to make sure to mount it higher than your air tank. You don’t want condensate/debris to flow down the remote line and potentially clog up/rust out the switch.
If you can’t mount it higher than your tank, consider installing a water trap. Or in the very least run a length of air line lower than where the switch is mounted. (Not ideal… but it’ll help)
I just added a 3/8" air brake line to one of the extra ports on my tank and extended it to the box that houses the main fuse block, compressor and relays
Worked out just dandy
^^very nice. how do you keep the compressor from overheating? i have been thinking about doing a similar setup but it will o under the truck and using a viair 550c
Suck and blow cooling fans
There’s one on the bottom (below the relays) that sucks in clean air and blows it into the air cleaner and another on the shell that sucks out the heat from the head and blows it out
Back when I tested it, I filled a 5 gallon tank from 0-150psi with the box open and the fans off.
When it shut off, I could sizzle spit on the surface of the head
After I let it cool down, I did another test filling both 5 gallon tanks with the box closed and the fans running.
It took a while, but when it finally shut off, the surface of the head was cool enough to touch
WOW so your compressor actually runns cooler in the box? what kind of fans did you use? just computer fans?
The constant flow of cool air across the cooling fins keeps it much cooler than just sitting in in the open and letting the heat build and slowly dissipate
Yes, they’re computer fans, but their blower style pushes a bit more than the standard flat fan style
hmm. i will have to put some on mine. only problem i see is water. i wonder if i vent the box only at the top. pusher on one side puller on the other. if i will have to worry too much about it sucking in water
Yeah, water’s not much of an issue with mine since it’s mounted on the rack.
The fan that draws in air is also on the bottom rear of the box, so even while driving through daily rainstorms, it does’t suck up any water
is that a mailbox? lol. I think i will have to do that. if i put both fans at the top and water traps on them i dont think it will get any water in there as long as i dont submerge it. but if i;m in that deep of water i’ll have more problems than just water on my compressor.
