Now in the UK you can’t get Loctite 545 without importing it for an arm and a leg, however you can easily get Loctite 55 which is a cord which is designed to replace both the PTFE method and the old Hemp & Paste system.
With PTFE I always had pinhole leaks, I was losing 100 psi a day after I rebuilt the system the other week, however with the use of Loctite 55 instead of PTFE it seems I have a solid sealed system. I did it last night and I haven’t lost a single PSI this morning (or at least I don’t think so and any minuscule movement on the gauge I put down to air temperature changes overnight)
So UK folks, if you’re finding PTFE a PITA and can’t or don’t want to import 545 I can highly recommend Loctite 55!
I swore by the Yellow PTFE tape i got at home depot never had problems. But know im starting to notice a 10 psi loss in about 24hrs. I’v used loctite 545 but it took for ever to dry.
anyways it looks like this winter ill be dropping both tanks and redoing all the fittings.
You could try Pirtek UK… not sure what kind of shops or distributors they have in your region but Pirtek makes S69 which is akin to the Loctite 545. I bought a bottle of theirs a while back and it’s been brilliant. Takes 12hrs to cure though (without an accelerator)
