Looking to buy first horn.

Okay, so I was planning on buying a horn and after doing some research I have decided on the HornBlasters Shocker Classic 228vx

http://www.hornblasters.com/products/details.php?i=shocker-228vx-train-horn-kit

Now I dont know a whole lot about these other than from what i have heard that hornblasters is really a good and reputable brand, I was just wondering if you guys had any other suggestions that would be better than this horn for about the same price or similar to this horn for cheaper or anything, Thanks.

welcome.
i actually have a buddy looking to selling his set up. it consists of shocker xl 4 piece horns, 1/2 valve, 2-480c viair compressors, 5 gallon tank for 550 obo. this set up in my opinion is so far bullet proof

Welcome to the forum. You heard right, HB has great prices and customer service!

Welcome to the forum. The only thing better is a real train horn, but that also comes at a higher price. Haven’t heard of anyone yet who was disappointed with the Shockers. They are fantastic.

The only change you could consider is to spend up a bit more on a larger compressor and tank. Not only more horn time and faster refill, but for those that get hooked on horns, the Shockers are often a precursor to a real train horn purchase. If you think there’s a chance you might be heading down that road eventually, it’s easier if you already have a bigger and more capable air supply system.

Thanks for the input guys @kms i am not sure i kind of want to buy new since this is my first one and i dont really plan on upgrading or atleast not anytime soon not sure if id have enough money lol but i guess im gonna go with the shockers since you guys have put all good input about it Do you think they would give a better deal if i called and ordered it or no?

Also, where and which way would you guys suggest mounting the horns to maximize their potential, down?

Facing your target (best, on a roof mounted 360 degree swivelling turret)

OK… realistically, best to mount them so they have the least amount of obstruction, but don’t worry about it too much. They are hellish loud and will blow your ears off in just about any position.

What type of car/truck are you putting them in anyway?

If you can, behind the grill facing down is what i was always told. That way the sound hits the ground amd goes in all directions. Although i am digging the 360 degree turret stated above. evil grin

@DBO On a 2000 Chevy S10
@Grippin I was thinking towards the ground as well just not sure exactly where lol

Not sure on the s10 :-\ on my Ranger i would have been able to with some cutting but didnt want to do that. Not sure if on my build thread i have pics of the new placement. If not, ill take some today so you have an idea of how i mounted them behind the grill of my Ranger.

Alright thanks man!

lol. my set up would work perfect on a s10. thats what it would be coming off. brackets all set up for tank and comps to go where the spare tire was and then the horns mount under the core support on a bracket

Not good shots but i hope it gives you somewhat og an idea. :-
I can see about getting some better ones if you like.
