Measure twice, drill once

Hi guys!

Well, budget will allow me to get the Conductor’s Special Model 240 Train Horn Kit, with those bloody awesome shockers!

So, out with the tape measure i go to find some locations for the horns, and trying to find places to put them is certainly going to be interesting :frowning:

I got the lengths of the trumpets as (in inches) 19.5, 16.25, 14.75 and 12.75.

Does anyone know the overal diameter of these please? I have found locations that can accomodate the length of the horn, but dont know the diameter of them.

Last few q’s on the horns sorry! Does it matter if they are not all in the same location? I mean, they will all be in and around the engine bay, just not inline with each other.

And lastly, can they take a considerable amount of heat? Don’t fancy them melting away when crawling in traffic lol!

Thanks for any help!

Cheers

Speedy

I don’t have shockers or I’d measure the diameter for you.
But you can mount them different directions. Just try to keep the individual airlines the same length.
As far as heat - lots of people have them next to their radiator, but I would stay away from headers / exhaust manifolds. You can always make a heat shield too.

Ah right i see, thanks! I have some space between the pulleys on the front of the block and the radiator. Was going to mount the longest one just behind the bumper, the second one in the space i just mentioned…and the other two? Might have to be at the rear somewhere.

Although, just read someone who has an accord (sorry cant remember username) mounted on the crash bars of the bumpers…Might take mine off on the weekend and see how much there really is.

I WILL make room for these! i will…sobs

But if someone has the overall dimensions of the horns, that would be superb

All the bells are roughly identical to the size as a coke can (normal 12oz can). So like 5 inches or so,

mine are there and havent melted haha

HB’s vid shows durability but unfortunately they didn’t try to melt them for ya here

Thanks for the replies guys! much appreciated…

The 2 biggest horns i can fit up the front of the car no problem. One behind the bumper and one inside the engine bay between the radiator and pulleys.

Downside is, there isn’t a lot of room behind the rear bumper (radious wise) for the horn. However, plenty room above the exhausts (twin system)

I can see an air flow from the wheel that would allow some air to flow through…but tbh i can’t see a problem with mounting them there? or would there?

Ok, so just measured the gap between the radiator and the pulley wheel on front of the engine. I’ll be able to fit all 4 horns together vertically on the crash bar. But, i’m seriously worrried if the heat will effect them? Don’t want them melting or sounding odd lol!

Been looking on the main site for buying the kits/horns and there is a difference in size of the flare.

Went into the horns only section and gives the shocker XL’s as 5 inch, and the Classic 4-Piece Train Horn (HB4H) as 5 inch. But on the kit gives it as 6.5 inch.

I can fit the 5inch horns just about, but 6.5 isn’t possible :frowning: Can anyone shed some light on this please? Finger is itching to press buy

Give HB a call. They’re very willing to help. May be a typo somewhere.

Thats spooky! Just mailed me back and its a typo…oh yes will be ordering them in a short while

EDIT—

Just done the deed and sent payment, sooo excited

Congrats you will love them.

Thanks! - yes very exited now!..got some big MG shows coming up over the next few months, as well as my dads cousins wedding (i’m the wedding car) going to be so much fun

Congrats! Keep us posted!

You are going to love the shockers when you get them… I loved mine… still do… I would HIGHLY recommend having all of the air hoses the same length or you will hear the shorter length hoses before you hear all of the horns fire… trust me… I speak from expierence. My shockers are on a regular 3/8" air line and it isn’t the same length… I have a could of "T"s in there and you can hear it firing the horns closest to the air tank first. but my K3 drowns it out now…

Can’t wait! UPS tried to deliver today but no one was in. Got back, paid them the customs duty i got hit with over the phone…only 40 quid which was cheaper then what i was expecting =win!

Going to be delivered Friday. But i got some qeuries about the wiring.

I can see in the picture of the kit it has a toggle switch. I assume i have to go and get myself another switch to activate the horns (not using the standard horns)

Plus reading the instillation pdf… Whats it on about locating an accesory line?

I’m fairly lucky because in the boot of the car where the tank & compressor will be, the battery is in there too, so not much wiring. The only lengthy wire will be to the centre console from the rear of the car.
