Ok, I nabbed another video last night thanks to verizon and my mortorola droid. lol. Anyhow, here it is. Its the same as my horn blow random 01 video that I posted last week, except, Im actually facing the strip center now. Im about 200 yards away from any building. Pretty cool echo. here is last night:
Hope you enjoy. once i get a real camera, these will be way better. My K3 still sounds muffled becasue theyre basically right behind the bumper. i need to make a new bracket so that I can aim them down. I like to show how much air was used when i blow for all the new people. Thats something that I was never told and I like to tell people what was never told to me. Enjoy.
I like the videos. I still don’t think it’s your horns being muffled. Sounds more like an out of tune typical newer K3 to me. Is it bells 1,2,4a? Almost sounds like 1,2,3. I think it’s just your number 2 bell though. You need to make a video at least 1/4-1/2 mile away so I can get a better hear of it.
The 1 bell is the BIG one, right? I always get backwards on this part. I did shoot a video from that distance. Its on my thread, “Finally got video” lemme try to find a link. http://www.trainhornforums.com/showthread.php?t=2508
the best one is the last blow. I was facing the camera at about a 1/4 mile away. So you think the 1 and the 4a are fine, its just the number 2 bell? When I first got the horn, THe 1 bell wasnt working. I just had the other two and now that I fixed the 1 bell, you cant hear the 2 bell.
Im trying to figure that out now with hondaguy. I mean the chord is wrong, I dig that. BUT ITS LOUD AND WRONG and it sounds about as confusing as the looks I get from people when I blow it at em. So. lol. Point served !
Kinda off-topic, but I have said before that I dont go around scaring poeple, my horn is my BIG FINGER that I shake at drivers for doing stupid stuff. lol
Im not sure how new the horn is. Im gonna ask, I know its been painted a couple times and the guy I bought it from says he rebuilt it. I mean we all know what it takes to do that or “say” youve done it.
Take each bell off and use a blow gun to put air to it. I suggest a friend with hearing protection sound the bell while you stand away from the bell.
Rebuilt inside should look like this. If not you got ripped off. If pulling the bells apart look anything odd, make sure the rubber cushion is perfect and clean, and the disks are clean and have no beveled edges on them.
Wow. My horns dont look ANYTHING like that on the inside. They have lots of water spots. You know what I mean? like the parts that get wet and it kinda stains or crystalizes a bit(oxidation). The diaphrams are okay looking. Theyre not NEW but the rubber rings look pretty good. I replaced the o rings on the 1 and 2 bell. So, I dunno what else to do besides have the bell re-tuned. Its not even that serious to me. I would buy another 2 bell before I handicapped my horn to send it to a horn doc and wait on it to come back and all that good jazz. Does anyone know right-off what my problem could be? Should I replace the diaphrams or something?
I’d clean that corrosion out of them for sure. That could be your problem. You might can see if hornblasters will trade a on tune bell for an out of tune lol
bring it to my house, we figure it out this weekend…that horn u have was one of my best sounding horns…i got a ticket with that one!..and u heard it that one day when u bought it…we blew it about 10times…and it sound niceee…the oxidation is water of course.when i sold it too u i cleaned it all up with a sos pad…then went over it with steel wool…on that horn 3 diaphrams were cracked and i got 3 from t.aker…it also had a scratched up backcap and i got it from him too…
Aight, I gotta see what’s up. I’m going to be real busy this weekend. But you heard the video right? What you think they sound like? They’re definately loiud as hell.
i use aluminum cleaning acid and a small wire brush…u need to open it up…it probably has gotten water inside that has sat in there and oxidized a bit…the way u have your horn mounted makes maintence hard!
So. So, you agree that it doesn’t sound right? I agree with you. It sounded fine. I didn’t do anything to them. I like the way they sound now but I’m taking advice from people that have more experience.
well i have to here it in person…its hard to judge from 10ft away with a sucky camera…and when i heard it u had that plastic coverin them…so the sound wasnt coming out
I watched both videos man, they might be out of tune because the diaphrams are warped. If your continusly blowing them above 150 psi you definatlay raise the risk of warping the diaphrams and throwing the tune of the horns off. Sounds like Kingranchsteve was using 150 or lower psi when he blew them and thats why they sounded good then. I would def pull the horns off and check all 3 horns and there diaphrams and coushins
