Where is the best place to mount a K3 on a newer F150? Ive seen in place of the spare tire. Has anyone out there found a place on the frame?
Thanks,
Garrett

Welcome to the forum Garrett. I’ve seen pics with them mounted up with front grill, many locations on a frame, and where the spare tire was. Check the install section for references to F150.
If you buy the seperate brackets you have a lot more choices fo mounting locations.
Any references to someone that makes the brackets
The guy from Realtrainhorns makes and sells them commercially through his website or via eBay. (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NATHAN-AIRCHIME-K3-TRAIN-HORN-CUSTOM-MOUNTING-BRACKETTS-/360479022477?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item53ee395d8d)
You can also make them yourself without too much trouble. Here’s a DIY I wrote ages ago, but there’s other ideas out there as well.

Great DIY write up on the custom backers. Ill be ditching the stock manifold .
I picked up a set of K3L airchime they say Holden rather than Nathan. Are they two different companies? The guy said they were used on the Canadian trains and the tune is slightly different. Are these a rare horn compared to other k3’s?
Not sure about the rarity of the horns but could be. Here’s a quote from Wikipedia:
“The Holden Co. Ltd. was the Canadian Distributor of Airchime Mfg. Co’s locomotive air horns and steam whistles”
If you haven’t come across the Horn and Whistle board, you should pay them a visit - they’ll be able to tell you more about the history of those horns than anywhere else. Just a word of warning, they don’t appreciate vehicle train horns for the purpose of “scaring” people.
You could do some inquiring over on hornwhistleboard.com.
I thought the Holdens were more collectable, but they would know more.
I took a look over there. The holdens seem to have a unique tone. I may post them for a trade for another k3 or p3’s. If its a sought after horn I’d rather a collector have them.
