i dont kno y but my relays keep blowin the 1st relay was a 40 amp viair but when it blew ive been using 30 amps from autozone. i kno its wired up right but they blow out every week or so. could it be my compressor pullin to much amps? its a 480c.
i have a 40amp viair relay and 25amp fuse and never had any problems just once the fuse blow and thats it
possibly the ground?
Did you use the correct guage of wire? The compressor will draw every bit to get it started. Make sure all your connections are tight. And nothing is loose and can causing an arc to occur.
get an Amp meter and measure the current flow through the power cable while it’s running.
what gauge wire do yall recommend i have 12 or 10 gauge for everything except the remote my remote is like 16 gauge i think
You can’t “blow” a relay. They can fail from fusing together internally, but they don’t blow.
Are you sure you’re not talking about a fuse?
What gauge wire are you running to your compressor from the battery and how far from the battery is the compressor mounted? (wire routing feet - not actual feet in a straight line).
i have a fuse b4 the relay but the relays keep going out maybe i have too high of amp fuse i think its a 50 amp maxi fuse
i have 4 gauge wire coming from the battery about 20 ft with a 100 amp fuse on that wire. it goes to a distribution block that is fuse one side goes to my amplifier with a 80 amp and the other to my compressor wit i thinl 10 or 12 gauge. i have 4 gauge going to my amp
I would maybe look at were u have it grounded it may not be pulling a good ground for the relay.
What kind of relay u using ?
If ya can get a picture of the relay i can help ya maybe figure out what its doing.
Its probably because you touch yourself at night…
OR
maybe its pulling too much because you have subs? IDK, I’ve only had my relay go out once. It was on a viair 480c. I’m thinking hard here…
I’d get a 4 ga. ground.
Are the wires hot when said relay “blows”?
ya my ground is 4 gauge too.
i was thinkin it could be the subs but then the other day it went out when i had the subs off.
i think im going to buy a 40 amp relay and protect it with a 30/35 amp fuse and take the wire a gauge thicker
The Oasis compressors use 4 gauge so unless you have one of those I doubt you need to go larger.
i mean i have 2 distribution blocks. 4 gauge wire going to the blocks. after the blocks i have 10 gauge for ground and power going to the compressor 8 gauge wire going to my capacitor adn 8 gauge wire going to my amp. so really i just have 10 gauge going to my compressor and the blocks are fused. sorry if thats not clear thats the only way i can think of to put it lol
You put it well enough. As long as you have an alternator and /or batteries that can keep with everything, your setup should be fine.
An Amp meter sure would take the guess work out of it.
I’m running 4 Ga from the battery with a 70A circuit breaker inline with the 4Ga wire, to a distribution block where I have 2 30 Amp fuses (they blow from time to time because these things draw like 31 amps or something like that) I’m running a dual 400C setup.
Are those 30 Amp fuses fast blow or slow blow. If they’re fast blow then you might want to try slow blow as it takes longer for them to blow.
You know, I’ve never really thought about it… I get them from a car stereo shop, so probably fast blow…
I do know that when they do blow, they are toasted… the glass is burned, and the conductor inside is chard I will try to remember to get pictures of the fuses…
the first thing you need to do is use the recommended relays and fuses to operate the system correctly then take it to the next step by testing the amps while its running, checking your wiring for loose connections… there has to be a way of tracking it down…
at this point, take out the circuit breaker, something will eventually burn up and then you’ll know what the problem is…LOL:rolleyes:
