Here’s a few pics of an RS3L on a 2001 F250. Been an ongoing setup, but I think I’m set on the way it is now, I started out with a manual valve but switched to a solenoid.
Quick list of the setup:
VIAIR 480C, Slimline 5 Gallon
1/2" SMC valve, 1/2" I.D. Pushlok hose
3/8" I.D. Pushlok hose for air chuck next to the trailer plug.
Compressor power, and momentary button for horn actuation
They aren’t good on them because they release a sharp blast of air to the horn. That’s why they starting going bad when put on newer engines. Nathan horns, on the other hand, can pretty much take whatever you give them. A GW valve can slowly let air to the horn (as you know) and won’t damage it. I know using a solenoid valve on either of my Leslie’s makes them sound funny and makes some bells squeal or not sound at all.
Interesting! I’ll put the solenoid back further if I have any issues.
I haven’t heard the horn sounding any different with either valves so far, I noticed with the solenoid all the bells hit much harder with the pressure being input directly at the horn versus 20 feet of hose, kinda obvious expectation.
I gotta route my solenoid actuation wire out of the way and loom up some other stuff a little better, but I think I’m actually liking this setup and will stick with it.
I didn’t know how functional or where to actually put a water separator, but pre-tank and post compressor it gets a few pints of water after the compressor pumps the tank back up to 145 a few times during the week.
it had 2 problems…i was using a newer #2 bell, and the 5 bell was starting way too early…so i swaped a bell, and adjusted the torque on the backcaps to were u hear the 1,2,4,then 3,5…sounds cool…like a k3…then bamm a k5
