There is a considerable difference in price between a new set from HB $950 ($880 through Amazon) and some rebuilt, powder coated sets on EBay. Here is an example.
Obviously, the rebuilt price is more attractive but do you lose something?
Is there anything to watch out for or avoid? Anyone have any experience with them?
I bought my K3 brand new,but after seeing how darn sturdy and simple the design is, I’d happily buy a refurbished one from now on. As long as the rubber seals and diaphragms are new, these things are almost indestructible the way they’re built.
BTW… Just had a look at the advert. Those Nathan’s look just drool-worthy all chromed up like that don’t they?. That guy sells a lot of horns and is pretty trustworthy from what I’ve read. Good price… go for it. Gonna look great on that black truck of yours
Thanks for the feedback guys, I appreciate it. Pretty much confirms what I was thinking.
That was my first thought. I’ve never had anything powder coated. I’d guess a couple hundred bucks to have it done but I’m not sure.
That’s the seller from the link I posted.
I’m the same way. There doesn’t seem to be much exposure on something like this given their sturdy design and simplicity.
The ad says the diaphrams are new, the seals aren’t mentioned but I assume they would be too. I would verify it.
Yeah, they do look sweet.
If you zoom in on the pictures you can see a few dings on the #1 bell but nothing too bad.
The rest appears to be in very good condition.
The black ones are very nice too. I’m thinking about mounting them on the other end of the box so maybe the chrome would look better.
