Nathan K5 restricted?

I did a search on this forum and came up with this thread that talks about some kind of restricted piece that only allows a small amount of air to the K5 horns.

Upon removing one of my horns from the manifold, I noticed I had something similar on mine. The thread mentions a restrictor in the manifold, but mine is in the horn itself. Is this removable?
I tried with an allen wrench, but it wouldn’t budge. I don’t want to break anything, could someone please let me know if this is removable?
I’m trying to determine if I can put a fitting at the bottom of each horn without the use of that nylon spacer piece.

Maybe a pic would help, I’ve only had my K3 apart once and I could sworn the “port” between the manifold and actual chime was just a tiny hole. I may be mistaken though

You’re right, and IIRC there is a thread on here that discusses using a 4mm drill bit to increase the diameter of that port to remove the “restriction”.

Wait, so how is it that realtrainhorns.net is selling a manifold bracket set for the k5, and the pics show fittings attached to each bell? Do these not work with my Nathan, I’m a little confused here. I will try and take a pic tomorrow of what I mean.

This pic is what I mean, how is the fitting attached?

I found a pic online of what I am talking about, the bottom of my horn that attaches to the manifold looks like this pic. So how big can I make the opening? I take it, I can’t add a fitting directly to the bottom of my horn, I need some kind of gasket in between?

This opening, how big can I make it?

Ok I figured out the answer, I found an old thread by Curt which explained everything.

The small hole at the base of the intake is not there to restrict. It’s a Venturi which speeds the air before it hits the diaphragm chamber.

Thank you for that, I’m just going to leave it as is. I was confused when I read something about Over the Road and how you can remove the restrictor, so I wasn’t sure what I was dealing with when I saw my Nathan’s like that.
