it happens some times to me too
well u do gotta prove us…the k3 is louder than a k5…k3 1/2line at 150psi will be louder than a k5 with same 1/2 150psi.only way to make it louder is to use 1/2 on the base and 3/8 on the side of manifold…how cares what the Nathan engineer said…the stuff from micro precision airchime sucks right now anyways!!!..here is the graph to prove everything…if you want a leslie horn graph ill show u that too
lol, I was gonna post that same graph. I was just waiting on that guy to post his proof.
i was starting to wonder when you were going to disprove him. The differences between the loudness of the two is small, too small to make a difference in scare factor. remember there will always be those people who dont even budge, jump, or flinch when you blast them hell ive had a few not even turn to look, inconsiderate people if you ask me. If they new what kind of time and money i had in the horns they could at least be curtious enough to look!!!
lol only happend once to me and i was shocked that he diddnt look
sorry to jump the gun…but i already wanted him to shut his @$$ already
lol i knew the k3 was louder cuz i saw that same graph before buying my k3
So it shows that a K3 is roughly 114 dB at 100 feet. It’s the same loudness as a Leslie RS-3L but a RS-5T is 115 dB at 100 feet. I wonder if that makes it the loudest train horn. I haven’t seen a chart for a Nathan M series horn but my guess would be that it’s close to thes same as that of the K horn.
I love my k3! The only horn i like better than the k3 is the leslie s5t thats it!
i seen charts online that have the k3 at a higher db rate then the k5 if it is true htat the k5 is 1.5 db louder i doubt anyone would be able to notice . i myself have seen more truth to the k3 being louder as what i read and what i seen

get 3 5h bells i was readin that the 5h bell is used on trains in africa and they have a higher freq then the regaulr 5 i think the 5h is like 660hz i believe
most say the k3 are louder and the k5 just sounds nicer due to the 2 xtra bells on paper it shows the k3 is being louder but people seem to argue that . as for me i never heard a k5 i would love to tho. also i doubt id be able to tell the diffrence since im sure there to loud to tell IMO
hellz yes k3la!
i dont think its the horns pitch thats the prime scare factor. its the fact that the db levels are so high that they make the hairs in your butt crack shake. thats what sets these horns apart from the cheap chrome horns is the fact that you can not only hear them, but feel them.
my vote is the k3l, because my city is located around a CP rail station, and the canadian trains are blasting their k3ls all day, so my horn blends in. as much as a train horn can
if youre buying a nathan just to scare people, how can you justify buyin the k5? 2 more bells to hide, more weight, consumes more air, costs quite a bit more. lets be serious, when you honk your train horn im sure you dont go “wow im sure glad i blew an extra $200 on a k5 vs a k3, it sounds so much nicer”, youre saying “holy crap look at that guy jump! this thing is bloody loud!” and then laughing until your chest hurts.
im sure 9 out of 10 people on this forum are saying the latter quote.
