Hey Everyone,
I’ve been lurking here for awhile and I figured it was about time I said hello. I’ve been reading the forums for quite some time now trying to learn as much as possible. I currently am hornless but am hoping to change that soon!!
There is an incredible knowledge base on this forum and I have learned a ton from you guys but I have a few questions to ask. First my situation… In the future I am most likely going to buy an Airchime but for now I’m starting off with something a little more reasonable to my budget. So I’ve decided that Shockers XL it is!! As far as an air supply goes that’s where my questions start.
How much air do the Shockers take? I see anywhere from 2 to 5 to 10 gallon tanks but how long do those last? How many blasts can you actually get out of that before they start sounding dull? My problem is money is tight right now but I don’t want to buy a compressor that is going to be to small in the near future. If I’m going to spend the money on them I want the best ones I can afford. I had a 30+ gallon air tank laying around that I painted as a boredom project and was thinking that to start out I would just run that in the trunk of my car and charge it up when it got low. My thinking is 30+ gallons at 165psi would be the kind of volume overkill that I need if I’m not going to have a compressor. I know it will be a pain in the a$$ but how long do you guys think that would last between fills? Would that be worth doing until I can save the money for a nice compressor setup and smaller tank? (Or in my dreams just buy an Oasis to fill it)
Sorry to get so windy on my first post but any opinions would be greatly appreciated!!
Welcome to the forums.
There is a guy on the forums that did exactly what you’re talking about before he got an air package. Hopefully ‘shocking thunder’ will see this thread & give some input.
Welcome to the forum. I have a 10 gal tank with a Nathan K5 and last me a consistent 8-9 seconds but my horns just chug the air. I can’t imagine what it would be like with a 5gal tank. Those smaller horns shouldn’t take that much air tho so 5 gal should be plenty
Welcome! To fill those 30 gallons and not void a warranty, you’ll need 6 of the smaller compressors. The warranty on an Oasis compressor is based on duty cycle and not tank size. The XD3000 will fill that tank from 0 to 150 PSI in about 5.5 minutes. It can run 30 to 40 minutes out of every hour as long as it has about 20 minutes to cool down.
yup i agree with you that they are expensive but for some people that have bigger air supplies on there vehicle would rather spend that on one then running a bunch of viairs. if i had like 30 gallons to fill id consider it but not for 12
Thanks guys for the input. I would love to be able to afford an oasis compressor believe me. Maybe sometime down the road. For now my wife thinks I’m absolutely insane for wanting train horns on my car… They just don’t understand… So there is no way I could spend $1000 and change on an air compressor alone. At least for now (Sorry Dan). ‘Cumminshunter’ I see you have a 10 gallon tank filled with dual 444c’s, what kind of fill times do you get with that setup once the comps kick on? These would be my first choice when I buy a compressor in the future. Those or the 480c which the only difference I can see are the fittings and pressure switch and such? What I’m trying to avoid is the constant noise of compressors running in my trunk trying to keep up so the bigger the better…
^true that. My tank fills from 110-150 in about 50sec and from 0-150 in about 135sec I took the times myself with a stop watch. But usually I don’t have to blow my horn very long if I’m warning someone or just for a slight scare. I too have a 27gal tank just for “special ocassions” but I will fill it with our shop oxygen cylinders and fill it to 200 psi in about 30 sec it already has a regulater.
Thanks everyone for the welcomes! I’ve also thought about running an oxygen tank with a regulator to keep the tank (smaller one) at a set psi. (Silent Refills!!!) Although 50 sec refill time isn’t bad. Either way I have some time to decide because I think I am going to order a set of shockers. Is it better to call Hornblasters for service or just order online? Either way I can’t wait to get it all hooked up!
