need advice on compressor

Hey all… brand new on here but I’m looking for advice from people who actually know what they’re talking about which I feel like is all of you… I currently have the shocker 240 setup on my silverado, but am wanting to upgrade to a constant duty compressor to run small air tools, but I am trying to figure out if anyone has any experience with compressors they like or if I would be better off installing two compressors? I have heard of people doing both by reading around but am looking to see which will work better for me … I won’t run tools very often and mainly just want to have a faster refill when using the train horn… thanks alot for any advice

You’re asking two different questions …

Do you want to run air tools, or want to honk more?

The required CFM of air needed to run even the smallest of air tools will be more than what you could provide, even with dual compressors. To run air tools you’d need to get something like the Oasis XD3000. The XD will do both things but the other compressors out there simply don’t have the output needed to run air tools.

Kris

to do all of ur needs together i suggest either the xd3000 or an engine driven compressor… to just run dual compressors for ur horns, dual viair 480…

I have Dual 480’s and 2 - 5 gallon tanks 2 shocker sets. They are very dependable and fill pretty quick.

Continuous duty air compressors are hard to find. Just because a compressor says 100% duty cycle doesn’t mean it’s continuous except for the first hour.

The XD3000 is 100% @ 100 PSI @ 72 degrees F for the first hour but in reality it can run 30 to 40 minutes out of every hour as long as it has about 15 to 20 minutes to cool down. That being said, 30 to 40 minutes from an XD3000 gives you enough air to do just about everything you want.

Now the XD4000 is continuous for many hours, even @ 200 PSI.

whats the price on that xd4000?? and how does it compare to a york210 edc?

The MSRP for the XD4000 is currently $1749 and that’s going up $100 in January. It uses a modified York ET210 just like the XD3000 which is also going up $100.

the XD4000 has a different frame that directs airflow, from a 100 CFM fan, right across the finned head of the ET210. This keeps the pump cool during operation allowing the compressor to run continuously, even at 200 PSI.

$399.95 for two VIAIR 480C compressors, rated to 200 PSI - which are 100% duty cycle.
$369.95 for two VIAIR 450C compressors, rated to 150 PSI - also 100% duty cycle.

Same price they’ve been for the past two years. Hornblasters has them in stock 24/7. You will need a regulator to regulate down to 90 PSI for air tool use. I would regulate one line to a quick connect coupler for your air tools and then run another line to your valve(s) for your air horns. - Done deal.

Is your 100% duty cycle continuous or just the first hour?

All 100% duty cycle compressors are rated according to one hour.
However…

After 2-4 hours of use in an optimum environment, if the temperature hasn’t risen and the thermal cutoff hasn’t been triggered… what’s the point of running them any longer? This is what we consider 100% duty cycle.

Damn Dan, just noticed your post count…

Postwhore much? lol

That’s because I’ve been here helping people while you’re on Facebook, Twitter, and who knows where else…hahaha

Welcome back!

Have you seen how much social networking I’ve done for VIAIR bro?
Now I’m looking to associate with other companies’ social networks and expand the base.

Its crazy…

I would probably do the same thing but most of my time is spent following up with customers and explaining the best install methods. It’s amazing how many people don’t read the instructions.

I hear ya…

just save the $ and buy a oasis i have 4 480c and they r junk

give me ur 480s… ill take em
