I inhereted these from my brother, and I don’t know much about them. Luckily I came across this website so I’m hoping someone can steer me in the right direction.
I know he had them on his 18 wheeler, but other than that, I dont know what I’m looking at. I also need to sell them, but have no idea where to start as far as description or price.
On a good day you could easily fetch $450-$500 depending on the guy you sell it to. $300 is way too much of a steal, you figure about $100 a bell, plus about another $100 for the manifold.
Those aren’t in prestine condition but they are in nice condition. The bolts don’t look all seized up or rusted, and depending on the internals, this horn could be worth a few hundred.
If you want to shine it up, take some steel wool on it and work your way up to the REALLY fine stuff, it will polish the finish real nice. DO NOT MEDIA BLAST IT! Unless you are going to powdercoat it, only clan it by hand.
I bought my k3, Canadian tune with bells 1,2,3, for $400 from a loco scrap yard, which is a fair price. Was in about the same condition as yours except it was more weathered and soot covered, for obvious reasons.
What you have here is a K3HA. Your horn consists of bells 1,2, and 4A, mounted on the High mount manifold. They’re not anything special or antique in terms on train horns, but you have yourself a common set of recently produced horns.
You also have the debris filters on the front which should add at least $30 to the price!
If you have any questions, feel free to ask, I can try and answer them!
