Need selection help, Train horns, limited space?

I have a 1987 Cadillac Brougham D’Elegance.

I want to put loud air horns on my car, preferable tuned to sound like a train horn.
Only issue is limited space for the compressor and tank and I don’t really want to bolt a compressor/tank in my trunk.

I did find this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/0-5-GAL-AIR-TANK-150-PSI-COMPRESSOR-ONBOARD-SYSTEM-KIT-F-TRAIN-HORN-12V-VXO8705-/391304880150?hash=item5b1b96a016:g:8PcAAOSwl9BWL9DJ&vxp=mtr

Do you think it is sufficient for some descent trumpets?

My next question is, where can I find some good trumpets to match that?

If there are better options I’m open to it.

Absolutely not! Hi there and welcome to the forum. Don’t waste your money on that kit. If you’re buying that, you’ll be buying something else a short time later (either because it’s broken, or failed to measure up to your expectations). Apart from the low quality, half a gallon won’t blow a candle out in a stiff breeze.

Arguably the best budget option out there that comes close to train horns are the Shocker kits from Hornblasters. Look at the 2.5 gallon starter kits (they give you about 4 seconds honk time). The tank and compressor are small and the trumpets are all separate to give you easy installation options in any car.

As DBO said, get some Shockers, they are individually piped on seperately manifolds, a real no brainier where space is an issue!

Like DBO said that kit will not be big enough,I had a 3 gallon hooked up to my shockers and they were about 5 seconds of blast time. I know you said you didn’t want to mount any thing in the trunk but i googled some pictures of the trunk of your car and seems to be a lot of unused space behind the spare tire up under the trunk lid. But anyways i would look at one the kits from HornBlasters like DBO said the shocker xls are perfect for you. You can remote mount each horn. Also if you call Matt at HornBlasters he could probably help you out and maybe pair up a different tank and compressor to fit your space requirements

What they all say is very true. I made the mistake of buying a cheap “train Horn” kit on eBay with 0.7 gallon tank. I actually never used it because I ordered the 2 gallon shocker kit a couple of days later. Within a year I upgraded to 5 gallon and some nathan airchimes

I’ve taken your advice and am looking at what you said.

I found this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/HornBlasters-Shocker-Classic-HK-S4-228VX-Conductors-Special-Train-Horn-Kit-/391261380638?hash=item5b18fee01e:g:Mw8AAOSw9r1V9wnK&vxp=mtr

What do you think? 500 dollars is a bit much, but if it means a good quality setup, I can go for it.
4 trumpets seems a bit much for me though, a good loud 2 trumpet setup with a 2 gallon tank to me would seem more reasonable?

The main reason I don’t want to mount the compressor/tank in my trunk is its a fully lined trunk and I don’t really want to put holes in the metal or interior lining.
If the tank is not to big of diameter, I could probably get away with mounting it up under the rear deck lid inside the trunk, above the spare tire. A longer cylinder tank?
The the compressor motor can be mounted the say sway, on the deck lid. Possibly.

It looks like there is unused space behind the spare, but it does go up to the back seat. Against the back way taking up 2/3 space behind the spare is the jack/wrench that goes with it, its behind a cover.

Only thing would be looking for a tank thats long and skinny that can be mounted upside down.

EDIT:
Something kinda like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Steel-Air-Tank-5-Gallon-5-Port-Air-Bag-Suspension-Air-Ride-System-Parts-/201348182524?hash=item2ee14971fc
But it says 200 PSI max, I’d kinda like a bit more safety then that on a system with up to 150-170 PSI.

If you don’t want 4 trumpets you should go for the 2 trumpet version: https://www.hornblasters.com/products/details.php?i=shocker-2-air-horn very loud just a different tone, and more honk time with the same air supply. Don’t get any other cheap Chrome horns, they can’t compare to the hornblasters.

I recommend 2 gallons minimum; the 5 gallon you linked to will give you lots of honk time. For a compressor, get a decent one, not the cheap eBay ones from an unknown brand, they will work but who knows for how long.

For mounting: I cut a piece of MDF to create a second trunk floor and put some fabric on it to give it a clean look. Mounted compressor & tank onto it and secured it with two clamping straps. Nothing is bolted to the car. If I need my trunk space I just unhook airline & cables and I take the whole thing out  if you need pics let me know

That’s the ones… although I’m not sure why you’d want to buy from someone on eBay rather than going direct through HB. Click on the “Shop Online” link on the top-right of the forum page. I would suggest you talk to guys and ask about a deal for a different tank setup if you want 5 gal. They’ve always been real helpful in putting together good deals for forum members.

BTW… that 5 gallon tank you provided the link to won’t be any smaller than the 2 gal (i.e. in width/height) from the Shocker kit - just longer.

Looking for a set of airchime p5 old cast. Anyone out there have a set for sale ?

Very funny
