This is my new project horn. Currently torn down for initial cleaning and inspection. Overall good condition, some minor pitting and corrosion. Diaphragms and cushion rings in good condition.

Great looking beast. The nozzles look like they can do with a bit of a smoothing out (especially on the 1 bell). A good fun project lies ahead.
I’ve been scrubbing like crazy the last few weekends. Replaced a few socket head cap screws for the diffuser rings. Had to drill one out too. Prep and etch and scotchbrite pads are my new friend. I will post some after pics when I’m done.
Here’s an after picture after the initial cleaning.
Oh wow… great job. Very nice!!
Heck yeah, looking good!
“insert Wolf Whistle here” Looking goooooodd!!!
What did you use to clean them up?
I’m finishing up my K5 so I see about swapping some bells with someone to turn it into a K5LL, then get them power coated and mounted on a headache rack. I really hate having my K3 under my truck now, and since I need to do some maintenance on my air system I figure this is the best time to do it all at once.

How did you make them so clean man? My early 90’s k3ha is still kind of dirty inside but that shines like new! What did you use on that?

I used a product called prep and etch, green scotch brite pads, and lot’s and lot’s of elbow grease. There is a good tutorial I found on the H&W board. It has a list of recommended materials and step by step procedures to get the best results.
Green Scotch Brite pads … aka the big green monster. I have plenty around the garage for clean-ups on the garage floor and when I started stripping my K5’s.
Thanks for the info … gives me a project for the winter

How do you post pictures so big? It will only let me upload a 20kb image.
Resize in MS Paint to 640x480, or 1024x768.
I resize them and add them to an album on my profile here.
That’s the magic stuff.
