New from Tampa Bay

I have had my Hornblaster set up for about 7 years and they’ve been on 3 diiferent vehicles. I’m not sure which model they are, I think Conductor. I’m running them off a 5g tank and a 150psi compressor. About two weeks ago they started sounding low and muffled, I drained the tank and rusty water came out as usual but it didn’t help the sound. I’m not sure what to do now. The compressor and tank are in the bed of the truck which has a cover on it and the horns are mounted horizontally under the truck(truck lifted 9+ inches). I’ve never cleaned the horns, do I need to take them apart and clean the inside?

Thanks

Any advice would be appreciated.

Welcome. I’m not fluent with horns but it sounds like something needs to be cleaned or replaced. Check you air lines and valves for debris. Horns have diaphragms in the back that wear out or tear and might need to be replaced.

Are they the plastic Shocker type horns? They have a fairly small in-flow so there’s a good chance you have some gunk in there. If it’s those horns, there’s also a small grub screw in the centre back which adjusts the pressure of the diaphragm against the seat.

They’re a fairly simple design (like most horns) so just take the back cap off and give it a good clean out. I think the Shockers use a gasket or sealant for the back so just make sure you re-seal them properly once they’ve been apart.

I’d check with the blokes at Hornblasters for some maintenance advice if you don’t want to tinker. They’re always very helpful from my experience.

Thanks for the replies. I’ll try those suggestions.
