I bought a 2011 Silverado in January and finally pulled the trigger on the Horn Blaster Shockers. I’ve been scouring the forums and saw a couple good install ideas. Any body have any advice, hints or tips? I’d like to drill as few holes into the truck as possible. I do have a full size tool box in the bed. Thanks!
Welcome to the forums, I hide the tank and compressors in my tool box, i didnt have to drill any holes in my truck, atleast I dont remember, besides the firewall because i have like 8000000 wires coming into the cab haha.
As far as tips, once you find a place to mount the horns the rest is easy, I found mounting was the hardest.
I think I’m going to mount the horns behind the grille. That install looks very clean and hidden.
Yep good place the space behind those grills is quite abit. Good luck and take some pictures!
Welcome to the forum.
The good news is my buddy is a mechanic for GM and I’m a machinist with a waterjet at my disposal. It should go fairly smooth!
Here’s a couple installs behind the grill of a new Silverado.
Maybe you already saw these…

I saw one, but not the other. If all goes well, they should be installed by the end of the day Saturday. I’m going to mount them tomorrow, behind the grille with zip ties. I had drawn up some brackets, but decided not to drill any holes, hence the reason for zip ties. I’m going to disconnect my factory horn and use the factory power and ground wires. The compressor and tank will be mounted in my tool box. I don’t mind drilling holes in that as I paid $75 for it. I picked up a fuse tap today and am still undecided as to which fuse I should tap into. I’m thinking about using a fuse that isn’t used (sunroof, elec tail gate, etc). If anybody sees anything wrong with what I’m planning on doing, please let me know. Thanks!!
Keep in mind that some accessories stay on with RAP - retained accessory power. For instance the sunroof on my Sierra works until I open the door - just like the stereo.
Look for an accessory that only has power when the ignition is on. Maybe rear window defroster…?
Can that circuit handle the 16 amps? I don’t see why it shouldn’t seeing as that only gets used every once in a while. Doing the install after work tonight… I hope it all goes well.
The only wire you hook to an ignition source is the trigger wire for the pressure switch. It takes very little power. You should have a heavier/fused wire coming directly off your battery for the main power wire going to the pressure switch.
Well… it’s installed!! Took a little over four hours, but the deed is done. The only real problem I had was removing the head light. I was disappointed that there wasn’t enough 1/4" line, though. I had barely enough of the 1/2" line. The compressor/tank combo is too tall to fit in my tool box. Tomorrow I will cut roughly 3/4" off the leg and weld on a new bolt hole. That should fix the problem. The rear window defogger fuse didn’t work. The defogger needs to be on in order for the compressor to run. That fuse blew rather quickly. Right now I have the compressor hooked up to the cigarette lighter fuse. I’ll eventually run a switch into the cab so the compressor doesn’t run if the truck is off. I love the horns!!! I’m very impressed and very happy with them. I went to a truck pull tonight and it was funny hearing all the wimpy horns. I hit mine and everybody shut up!!
