New guy looking for advice

Well guys I just bought a new truck and the wimpy horn needs to go.

I have a 2007 dodge ram 2500 and really want that deep train sound but want to stay around the $500 range for now (Dont mind buying used if need be or piece by piece).

I dont want to use up any bed space and want to mount everything under the truck. I live in Va. so road salt and all that jazz shouldnt be an issue.

Im guessing I cant just buy any tank because it would be bolted to the frame sideways so the drain needs to be on the side of the tank so when its mounted its facing down.

Any and all opinions are welcomed.

If you’re after a deep horn sound check out the Shockers from HornBlasters best bang for your buck for sure. You can get a whole kit from HornBlasters check out some videos on youtube. Search “train horn pranks” that guy has shockers.

Jason,

Welcome to the forums!

If you want to check out my install on my Ram 3500, this is what I did over the summer:

I LOVE your install Kris. That was actually the first one I looked at when I searched for “dodge” haha

I would love to know some details on your install such as the drain issues with te tanks like I was talking about in my first post.

That real deep train horn sound comes with a high price, but hornblasters has some great kits that may suit you well.

Details …

K3LA is hooked to a manual valve, and the drain is hooked up via an electric valve so I can dump the tank to work on it or drain water, or make a loud hiss to scare peeps. I have no drain issues so far with this setup; the water ends up in the air line as it drains from the tank and is held there until I dump it. Push and hold for a quick second or two and it’s done.

What else would you like you know? I’d be more than happy to help.

Thats it Kris. Looking at your picks I couldnt see a drain cock on the tank but you just explained that one for me

So If I were to get a shocker kit now would I be able to hook up some p3’s to it and get good sound later down the road or would it be best just to piece it all together bit by pit and go with P3s from the start?

I dont have $1000 to drop on horns right now :frowning:

Yes you could just change out the horn later. It’s a personal decision, but I tend to figure out what I want & buy once. Nothing wrong with the shockers though.

Yeah it can be done with a Shocker kit, but add some upgrades to it when you buy it so you’ve got some expandibility when you do decide to go bigger. You might have to have a little more cash up front, but it’s worth it since you won’t be trading out more equipment later on.

Well heres my idea. The whold thing that got me interested in train horns was the wow factor. However I found my way here, searching for OBA for my truck.

I fish in the OBX alot driving on the beach and need to air down and once Im off the beach need to air the tires back up. Having OBA would make it so much easier. The horns would be just a bonus

i was in the same boat!! i already had my air tank and everything set up for when i go 4 wheelin but then i realized one day…i need a horn!! so i found a set of shockers and i love em!

I got the shocker kit and mounted my tank and compressor to the frame rail. I just used a couple of heavy duty L brackets to mount the tank in the correct orientation for the drain valve.

I have a few sets of k5’s sitting around that i just started selling on ebay i see you va I live md if interested let me know

Actually I am interested. What would they go for?

I wouldnt be able to get em for about 2 weeks though :frowning: stupid mortgage!
