I have a love of all things american cars bikes trucks music etc
I went to a show a month or so ago called newark americana 2012 in the uk
Whilst cueing for an eternity to get into the showground, people myself included started beeping there horns with frustration truck horns was the majority heard but then OMG the noise from one contender was awsome!!!
My real interest in train horns was born:)
Once in and set up i went to find the man with the monster horn.
It turned out to be a peterbuilt truck covered in horns i spoke to him and he put me onto a few websites to look at which ive been doing and researching since returning home
This forum has a wealth of info for me which i am very grateful
Steering me away from poorkits and poor dealers
When i have raised enough cash im hoping to get a kl5a turn key kit
which leads me to one question
Would you buy hornblasters turn key kit or realtrainhorns.net turn key kit
Any advice gratefully received

I have heard good things about realtrainshorns. It seems Real train horns have a much better deal on a kit.
Welcome to the forums. I too remember exactly where/when I was hooked.
I went the Ebay route for my horns and put together an air kit from Hornblasters.

Are you thinking about jumping straight in with a set of K3’s or K5’s?:D:D
Real train Horns can do you a better price on a kit, but I dont believe the Horns are new? I think somewhere it is written that they are refurbished?
(not to say theres anything wrong with that, but its a pain in the a*se to send back if anything goes wrong!
Also, remember when if you do import them into the UK, be prepared for further expense on top of the shipping costs!
Roughly it costs an extra £100-£140 in import duty & brokerage fees, something you will be hard pushed not to pay, I should know, I am on first name terms at the UPS office in Kentish Town.
Finally where in the UK are you from?

Ermmmmm To be perfectly honest, you dont save that much in my opinion, for instance, your Horns arrive in UK and then go to a holding centre, the PO then write to you to tell you there are charges to pay, you can do it online I think or pay over the phone and then they will deliver or you can pick them up, which I did, make sure you take with you photo ID. I think I saved myself about 30quid by having them sent SUPS and they took about two weeks to arrive.

Castle Coombe rocks! I loved that MR2, sooooo much fun. Milster who was once on here was from Swindon, think he’s now in Wales?

I’m not sure exactly how many people have K5’s over here, but rest assured it aint that many, I know of 5 or 6, theres quite a few with K3’s & I’ve been responsible for a good proportion of Shocker kits. Hornblasting over here is not so prolific than it is in the States, but its getting there! At a guess, I’d say theres only a couple of hundred of us???

My mrs is about to plop a little one out, so as much as I would love to go, I’m not sure I am going to have time at the moment to get to Santa Pod…we’ll see;)

I’ll tell you what, the actual trains in the UK have horrible sounding wimpy horns. If you honk at a train over there with a K5LA (I actually prefer the sound of the K5L, but my favorite train horn is the RS3L) you’re going to give the engineer a heart attack!

Nothing beats a Leslie in terms of sound output and how commanding they sound, but Nathans tend to be cheaper and a little easier to mount and maintain.
