I am waiting for the temperatures to warm up so I can install my K3HA with 10 gal air tank. I have two AZ OB2 compressors. I did a little pressure testing on the compressors & tank, off the truck. I have two braided stainless hoses from the compressor to the tank. I bought a hose kit from hornblasters, high temp plastic tubing, with a SMC 1/2 solenoid valve.
Plan on installing a switch wired to key, to turn on compressors. Second for the horn.
Question: The 10 gal air tank has 2 ports on the mid body of the tank, but the remaining ports are on the two ends. Neither port, based on the built in mounting brackets seem to make sense to install a drain? Do I need to worry about a drain on the tank?
Any other comments suggestions on this setup? Thanks in advance,
Sounds odd… what kind of tank did you buy? You’ll definitely want a drain. I suggest you use the mid-port to face down and use as the drain, then use your end cap ports for air (one in the other out). On the output side you’ll just have to thread in a manifold so you can get your pressure switch and any additional outlets.
Thanks for the input.
I spent a few hours installing the tank and compressors, I stripped the threads on one fo of the 1/2 NPT to I/2 adapter/nipple going from the tank to the flexible braided hose.
I used this tubing, I needed longer braided tubing that came in the AirZenith kit,: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0063LTY8E/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Anyways, does anyone know where I can buy the chrome adapter/nipple that connects the 1/2 tank port to the flexible tubing (which I think is 1/2 id?), its a male to male.
Update; it looks like a 1/2 to 3/8 male to male adapter.
Well somehow one of the braided hoses that goes from the compressor to the tank was split. Strange, I don’t remember kinking it bad or bending it in a position that would have done that. I went to my local hose shop, they made me up two custom high temp Gates hoses, hopefully they can withstand the heat from the OB2 compressors. Plus they put a female 3/8 ‘tightenable’ on one end (for the compressors) and 1/2 NPT on the other so no adapters needed.
So far so good, pressure seems to be holding. I wired up the OB2 pressure sensor and waiting for rain to stop to do the final testing.
Next up is the horn. Based on a thread here on the forum, I bought a regulator and will tie that between the tank and the SMC valve, then onto the horns.
I believe I have a 200psi pressure switch, set the regulator to 150 or thereabouts for the K3HA horns.
Glad you’re getting it worked out. I was going to suggest contacting AZ for a fitting, or I probably have one you could have…but the custom hose works too.
Try different settings on your regulator. The lower you set it, the longer your air should last. Find a happy medium between loudness and honk time.
