Basically no. The airchime has probably 200% larger drivers but shorter horns to amplify the sound. The big Leslies have some very long large diameter cones that shape the sound but a much smaller driver. All in all they are quite similar on a loudness scale.
Here ya go… I put her together over the weekend. Not finished by any stretch since I want to get the main bells and manifold black anodized, but the place is only open through the week and I can’t find the time to get down there at the moment. Anyway, pics…
Nah… agreed that in bare skin, the horn is very cool as well - but meh - it’s been done before. I wanted to do something a bit different with this one. The main thing that struck me is the pure resonance of the metal once the paint is gone. It’s a massive difference - the whole assembly rings like a church bell. The painted one in comparison sounds like a lump of wood.
Anyway - not going to happen for a little while yet anyhow. When I do get it done, it’ll be bells and frame only - I’ll leave the power chambers polished. Plus I polished back all the ridge lines on the manifold. When she comes back in black I’ll give them a light sand back and re-polish them so that you get black bells and frame with silver outlines. Hopefully that’ll look good. Should be fairly unique in any case … haven’t seem any anodized versions floating around before (especially in black).
Oh man now that is nice looking:eek: How did you get that horn that shiny?? that is exactly how I want mine to look.[QUOTE=DBO;71567]Here ya go… I put her together over the weekend. Which one … the RS5 or the K5? In any case, the K5LLA is chrome powder coat (bought it like that).
The RS5 was soda blasted, then the bits that got missed were cleaned with a Dremel to get into the fine corners etc, then buffed with a pedestal grinder (brass wire brush wheel), then the chambers are polished back using two buffing compounds and again the pedestal grinder with a cloth wheel… makes one heck of a mess
Just randomly saw this. If thats what you think then fair enough, but most people seem to think that the leslies are louder than any of the nathans and many of those people are the professionals doing the restoration jobs too, some of which I’ve spoken to myself.
