New to Forum- Question about horns I was given.

My neighbor was a truck driver and on several occasions I saw him with and we ‘blew’ the train horns he had. After his death his son and daughter in law got the property and I asked for the horns if they were going to throw them away.
Its a Nathan setup. A 5 horn manifold with a p-2 and a p-4 horn. I have tested them and OMG they are loud. They have a funny ‘squeak’ when you first apply air but really, they are pretty loud and seem to work fine. I have considered trying to mount them and air supply in a 2004 jeep tj but not much room for that. Any information about the setup will be appreciated.

pictures?

I’ll have some tomorrow. The horns are at my work site’s shop. i will post tomorrow sometime.
Thanks

BTW_ These things are like a cast iron or something. Very porous material and very as heII.

cast aluminum…

ok, I looked at some pics of nathan horns and the closest to mine are the p series.

I think you answered your own question

So it only has the number 2 and 4 bells or all 5? If it has all 5, it is a P12345 (commonly referred to as the P5).

As someone previously posted, they are made out of cast aluminum (sand cast so not EXTREMELY heavy compared to, say a K5).

Also, the P horns all have a distinctive “chirp” or “squeak” when first sounded, it’s just a P characteristic so nothing to worry about there.

To tell the age of the horn, check the mounting feet on the bells (trumpets) and see if they all say PAT PEND or PAT PENDING. Also check the back caps and see if they say Nathan twice on them. If they say PAT PENDING or have double Nathan backcaps, it would indicate that it is an Old Cast (OC) P5. You’d have a jewel if that’s the case!

Oh, one more thing. If it just has P2 and P4, you could just buy P1 and make it a P124 (P3).

Here are the pictures I took today. the horns say Pat. Pend. and Nathan is on the rear covers only once.

Yep, that’s 2 bells of what used to be a P3. Now just get that other bell and you’ll be good to go…Hornblasters should be able to get you one or you can PM me and I can see what I can find ya.

Thanks Hondaguy. I appreciate the help, now does anyone know a possible worth on them as-is. I doubt I try and use them but could sell them and buy a chrome kit with compressor and all for almost what I think these may bring. Just picking brains here.
Thanks for looking.

Sorry guys, it seems that I have upset the powers to be, and they didn’t like my ‘removed’ post about a request of (how much they are worth) so I have been censured and I must move on.
Thanks for the help and God Bless.
