New to horns, what's good?

I’m getting a set of horns pretty soon. I’ve been looking at the Maximus level two kit. Any idea on this? How loud, quality? I’m wanting to get some LOUD a$$ horns. What’s my best bet here?

NO! Those are the classic cheapo chrome colored train horns. They lack the bass of other train horns imo. Shockers from Hornblasters are a good bet ;). I haven’t heard (pun) of any imitation train horns better than Shockers.
Ultimately it’s up to you to decide the horn that has the tone that you like the most. All these horns are plenty loud but those 3-trumpet chrome ones you mentioned are not the best imitation horns out there and not the loudest.

Welcome to the forums.

You didn’t mention a budget, but a Nathan K3 would be the ticket. There have been a few on ebay lately. Shockers are the next best thing as far as loudness and they have a deeper tone. They also mount separately so they can be easier to fit.

If your goal is to be really loud, don’t mess with anything other than Shockers or an authentic trainhorn.

Budget is not an issue with me

Welcome to the forum. For authentic sound go with Nathans or Leslies.

If you want to use the horns a lot, air up tires in a hurry, or even run a 1/2" impact without waiting, check out this bad boy - Oasis XD3000 Military-Grade Air Compressor | HornBlasters

Welcome to the forums. Everyone has pretty much covered the truth to what you need to know about the various “cheapo” horns. If you want the train horn sound, you need to own train horns. There is nothing else like it, I promise you. Spend the money on the horns, and the rest of your components…you will be glad you did. Hornblasters is a great place to work with. I already had my horns, but had nothing else…and didn’t know what I needed. I called them, and was only on the phone for 5 minutes or so…and we got every piece I needed ordered. If you aren’t budget limited, I highly recommend doing the same…give them a call, they know their product, and will get you the parts you need to meet your expectations of the horns, and truthfully probably exceed your expectations. Thats how I ended up.

I’d love to have that with my setup! Damn

Where can I get the Nathan K3 kit from?

What’s the input on this one?

Those horns have great bass.
Here is a comparison video of a Nathan K3 versus the shockers.

If your going with those horns, I’d get the Shocker 240 kit instead of the 228vx.
Differences:
Larger air valve, maybe larger tubing to valve so you can maximize the horns.
Air compressor pumps about twice as much air per second than the 228vx kit and slightly higher duty cycle, so if you ever want to add more air, or different horns, you have a good solid onboard air system to work with.

Again, if budget is of no concern…go for the gold, get some Nathan’s or Leslie’s. Call Hornblasters and they can piece together everything you need.

Can I get Nathan’s from hornblasters?

Yep! You have the choice of a Nathan K3, K5, P3 or P5 horn.

Your best option is my kit I have for sale

So i’ve decided to go with this

Turns out budget is an issue because i dont want to be spending over $500.

These are loud correct?

This is the exact system I just finished installing on my truck. You will totally enjoy them.

The 240 kit! Otherwise the compressor is pretty slow. The exact same horns as the 228vx kit. You can probably get a good deal on hornblaster’s ebay store.

$550 shipped and you can probably wiggle them down a bit more:

I’m used to really fast fill rates so I agree the 240 kit is better. I would also consider the 540 kit because you get more blasts from the 5 gallon tank.

I’m just going with the 228 kit. I wont be blasting them all the time.

Has anybody seen the videos on youtube of the guy that made his train horns?

PVC Horns?
