New to horns

Hey guys I’m new to this whole thing. I ordered a kit from hornblasters and I was looking thru it and found out about this site. But I wanted to know if I got my money’s worth on buying the 228vx kit? All I’m looking for is loudest horns. The compressor and tank no need to be anything crazy but enough to handle the horns. Thanks

Yes you got your money’s worth. The shocker kits are one of the loudest non-genuine train horns out there and it’s all good stuff. You’ll love 'em

Welcome to the forum. Make sure you post some pic of your install.

Dbo yeah of coarse man. Do u know where I can find some setup pics on here. I don’t want to bite anybody’s setup just want to get ideas.

HornBlasters main site has an installs section:

Tons of good pics and great info!

Welcome to the forum. Great starter kit but some people like to upgrade to even louder horns, so be prepared…

Looks like a good kit…for now.

I had a 3 gallon tank on mine for years, always wanted a bigger one.
It makes a big difference in “horn time”.

In addition to the Install forum, keep an eye on peoples signatures.
Many have links to their installs there. MarineOne and DBO both have good ones.
DBO has a very nice schematic of his too.

Just wait till the horn bug bites you hard, or you get your first idiot that really has gone out of their way to deserve a honking … then you’ll want an upgrade!

Dang guys I didn’t know there was so many things u could do with horns. I thought u but a set of horns get a compressor and tank and u all good.

Thanks for answering my questions. Hope fully I get them mounted real soon.

I have a question about the horns being mounted under the truck. With them being under the truck facing towards the rear, do they build up grime and gunk? Also how often do u guys clean them if even possible?

I’ve never cleaned mine and they’ve been on for a couple years. they get a rinse once in a while when they’ve had some de-icing fluid from the roads on them, but that’s all.
