Newbie. clueless. please help

I am a part of many hobby based forums which have all taught me enough to be half successful at each. My hometown is located next to multiple railroad tracks and a very small station. My friend recently was given a very old train horn. Leslie Tyfon A-125-247. When he asked me for advice my first thought went to an online train horn forum and as expected there is plenty. This one seemed most legit so please dont let me down.

All we want to get accomplished, if it still works, is to get it to work. He has a couple air tanks that I will try to get the info off of. What do we need to get this to work. We just want it to be loud. If we can prove it still works we will be back on here to try and get it set up whete he’d like it.

First off do not disassemble them. If you jack with the power chambers it will be very costly. Try to shoot 100 to 150 psi through them. If possible us 1/2 inner diameter hose to get the volume to make them toot. Those take a lot of air to get them blowing. If they all sound off then your good. If not you will have to see which ones are faulty. Those require a lot of work if not functional. There are guys on her that know a lot more than me that will chime in here momentarily.

Agreed. Bigger the hose the better. What i would to temporarily is get a 1/2" ball valve, hook it up to the air tank , fill to 135 psi or so, and pipe 1/2" black pipe or galvanized to the horn to test it. This will be cheaper than trying to track down all the push to connect fittings and tubing that you will need later…

Here you go, this should tell you alot about the actual horn and you get to hear what it should sound like. (Its not the nicest sounding horn IMO), However this Horn is apparently collectable.
Hope its of some help.

Welcome. These guys know horns but if they or Hornblasters can’t help then try hornwhistleboard. Posting pics of the horn will really help.

X2 when it comes to Leslie’s
