i’ve been looking on ebay for a complete kit and the nathan airchimes are just too much. I’m thinking about getting the loudest shocker horn kit. However, is that the next loudest? does dominion or any other horns compete with the shocker horn?
Shocker would be the next best bet in my opinion. I own Nathans and Leslies and have shockers on my car and love them. Plenty loud and great sound.
is the money too much.or the size of the horns???
i would say if u have the space…save up a get a nathan.cause once u have your shocker, and if u think u have enough space ur gonna buy a nathan…
to start get the air system that will support the biggest horn you will ever buy…
a 10gal tank…2 480s…1/2lines…that will be a bigger expense but its capable of pushing any horn
The Nathans are so worth it in the long run. I bought some siege horns and they were OK, But then I was stuck at A RR Xing and an Amtrack came by and I said that does it ! I had to have one.If ya can’t fit some K5s Get some K3s you’ll be so glad you did. Your neighbors will HATE you. LOL If money is an issue, buy A little at A time. Horns, then air system, measure and map out where they will fit.In the end result you will love it.
that right if you don’t want to spend that much money on a real train horn get some shockers they are very veryyyyyy loud and they will scare the crap outta of everyone you honk at! trust me and try to run them at 200psi with 1/2 air line and 1/2 valve!

I have a set of shockers for the last 4 years and no problems at all. I will be adding a fifth horn to it. Custom made by me to make it a five chime set up. I have nathans and leslies in my collection. But these get alot of attention. If not save for a nice K3,P3, or a RS3L.
your best bet is to start buying the air system parts…for the biggest horn u plan on having…buy a tank and compressors…valve and lines…thats about 400ish right there…then buy whatever horn just to get by for some time…cause u will end up with a nathan or leslie if ur serious about scaring and really love having train horns
You think the same way I do. I guess some people wanna spend twice as much by going to the little ones first.Heck, I did and was not satisfied so I spent more money and bought the real thing. All I’m trying to say make sure you know what you want. Go stand by the RR Xing and see if this is what you don’t want and then buy your stuff.
i did the stupid a$$ mistake of going buying a small horn… big then upgrading…i only bout a seige, then went to nathans…but still its way cheaper if u get a 8-12gal tank…2 480s…start with that…then your hoses fittings and valve…it will be pricey, but ur gettin the best thing u can get…then later after a couple more pay checks…or income tax lol…get a real horn…
o and its nothing wrong with buying a used tank…some good used hoses.used fittings…a used Nathan…on a budget and looking in the right places u can have a k3,12gals,2 480s, 1/2lines vavles for about 950…considering a 400dollar used k3
If ya know where to look, you can find a K3 for way cheaper than Ebay. I would make friends with people at the railroad or you may already know someone who works there. If they’ve been there awhile they can usually get you one. Either that, or just keep your ears open to people tlaking about them. I had a friend get one for free from a guy at Union Pacific and another friend get one for $150 (didn’t work but all it needed was new diaphragms)… another alternative is checking Craigslist. Alot of those people know nothing of what they have and will list them for REALLY cheap. I came across a Holden K3 with the original tag and Canadian backcaps on Craigslist for $250.
