No power to compressor

Well i got a problem and i’m wandering if you can help me. Just yesterday my horns were working just fine. So today, i went to honk at the local “tax solicitor” and to be honest i was a bit embarrassed. It started when i fired the truck this morning and notice the compressor wasn’t running. Then it occurred to me that it wasn’t running at all when i blew my horns and just what was left in the tank came out. So i got back home and the first thing i checked was power. I got power from batt to pressure switch but nothing from pressure switch to compressor. Bad pressure switch???

Any ideas would be great!

Check the wire from the pressure switch to battery. If you’re getting power TO the pressure switch, but nothing coming out of it… I can only guess that the pressure switch is bad?

Heck, the kit ain’t that old. I checked all the way back to the battery, even pre/post fuse. I sure hope it aint the pressure switch. I already had a ballast go out on my HID’s this week!!

That’s really an odd occurrence.

I don’t know what to tell ya if you know your pressure switch is powered.

Check the ground on your compressor. Check the ground on pressure switch.

What type of pressure switch do you have? Is it blue or red?

I don’t think i’m following you (blue/red). Mine is grey and i have it mounted on top of the tank. It’s the stock one that came with the 240 kit.

Hmm. I’m not too sure. Call HB. I’m sure they could give you an idea on what to do. I have the blue pressure switch. That’s why I was asking.

yeah check the power wire to your pressure switch with a multi meter… if you have power there check power from pressure switch to the compressor if you have no power there its a bad pressure swirch… if you DO have power leaving the pressure switch direct wire the compressor to the battery to see if the compressor is the problem

the grey pressure switch has a built in relay so it could be 1 of to things 1 the pressure switch is sticking shut… or 2 the internal relay is bad.

It has to be bad PS…

So i got back home and the first thing i checked was power. I got power from batt to pressure switch but nothing from pressure switch to compressor.

Ground looked solid but I never tested it. I will check that as well first thing tomorow. I wasnt reading any power to the wire going to the pump though no matter where I grounded it.

I dont understand why the pump didnt do anything when I ran direct power to it unless the pump was bad. Do the GM pumps have a pressure switch so that if the pressure is built up in the line they shut off?

Your pressure switch one side receives 12 volts thru switch. 12volts to other side if switch is made you will have 12 volts on other terminal. Use you multi meter or test light to verify voltage presence. if you have to run a jumper wire to see if the compressor fires off. Then you can work your self back wards to verify where the power loss is.

Good Luck,

John

Run jumper wire from constant power line (from batt) straight to compressor? I’m pretty sure it’s the PS, but i haven’t gotten a PM back from garrett, which is UNusual. I’ll have to try and give them a call but i’m in the “field” all week :frowning:

Thanks

like others had sead
how are your wires
did you see of they
are bad ?

Talked to HB yesterday. Seems to be bad PS. Looks like i’ll be getting the updated “blue” one this go 'round…

cool man hope it
all works out for
you.
peace

Thanks man!

Bad ground! :o

It’s amazing how many problems end up being a bad ground.

It’s good to read everything has been figured out Johnny. Feels good to have the horns back up and running eh?

Heck yeah! Sometimes you just have to leave “logic” and go with facts. I still don’t understand how my ground that i had it hooked to “lost it’s touch”. The toolbox is BOLTED to the bed which is bolted to the frame! I moved the ground to the BOLT that has the box bolted to the bed (for now). I got so fed up, i was like, you know what, it works and that’s that!

Thanks for the great customer service garrett, you guys never fail me!
