Noob with train horn ?'s

Ok guys my buddy just picked up a set of United Pacific Horns. Ive got a few questions about them. He wants to get the most sound out of them as possible and ive done some searching around here and I just dont know enough about this stuff to know for sure what to get. So can you guys give me some direct links on what solenoid, compressor, air line, fittings and whatever else i might need. I know you need more air to be louder and i read something about drilling out some holes to a bigger size. Where is that at? Will the tank he has be good? Its max pressure is 125psi. So what will we need to hook these things up and make em heard for miles. Thanks guys for being patient with the noob.

The horn already has a solenoid valve.

The problem with that tank is that it only has 1 port. Personally, 4 ports is about the minimum. Air in, Air out, Drain, and 1 more that could be split with tees for a pressure switch, safety valve, gauge, etc…

I would vote for just buying an air package:

You basically need a air kit. You would need to manually fill that tank and it will get old after a while. As Ear2Ear said pick up a air kit. It isnt worth putting money into that tank.

Welcome. The problem with a tank that doesn’t have at least an additional drain port is you have to disconnect everything and turn it over to drain water out of it on a regular basis.

I know it has a solenoid valve but in order to run the bigger air lines properly dont you need a bigger solenoid valve to accomidate the bigger fittings. Ill look into the different tanks. I dont think we need one with 8 ports on it but i guess we can just plug the ones we dont use.

Seems like there was somebody that ran bigger airline to their unitied pacific horns and it made a big difference.
I think they took off the wimpy valve and threaded a fitting right into the horn.
So yeah, pick a valve like a 1/2" SMC, get some 1/2" DOT tubing and find out what the threads are in the horn.

Alright ill tell my buddy to look in to getting the stuff you all mentioned.

That set of United Pacific horns is pretty much rated max at 140 psi and will safely take up to a 3/8" air line. Just change your setup to those specifications and you should be fine.
