Well, I’ve been belly aching about it in the past, so finally today I managed to remove the bash plate which is restricting my K3 from sounding the way it should.
This is what it looks like now from underneath the front of the car.
Where you see the alloy strips, there used to be a flush mounted bash plate leading from the nudge bar at the front all the way under the car. It basically capped off the No.1 and 2 bells and never gave them enough room to project the sound. Anyhoo… plate gone, quick test…
Sounds like DBO is talking about a steel skid plate.
My truck doesn’t have that so I was talking about the plastic piece.
Maybe I shouldn’t have called it a splash shield. If you look straight down between the grill & radiator, you can’t see the ground 'cause this piece is there.
Not in my case. The plate was a lead-in guard to stop dirt and stuff being caught under the front (mainly for off-road adventures).
After this experience, I’d say anything placed in close proximity to the front of the horns could be an issue. Different materials, proximity to the horns and surrounding space for the sound to escape are all going to be factors. If you have anything blocking the horns whatsoever, I’d say remove it and see how it sounds. In my case it was a huge difference.
