"Old Cast" P5

New to the threads. Figured I’d use my first post to show off my toys.

My Nathan AirChime P5 on the roof of my 2008 Ford Escape.

Leslie S3L and K5LA.

The K5LA sounds tired and weak. Ate up the air really quick. I will eventually build a much better air system to support the proper airflow.

Thanks for watching! Enjoy!

THAT P5 SOUNDS FANTASTIC! Great videos and thanks for sharing!

Very nice videos. Those sound great. How many gallons are you using?

It’s a very amateur setup. Currently just a 20-gallon Craftsman tool compressor that can put out 150psi. The P5 sings like a champ with about 90 to save on air use.

I will eventually build a more permanent setup, but for now it does the job.

x2

Also, Nice Collection of horns you have.

You mount them on your roof?

Yes. I mount my horn on the roof racks using a custom built mounting plate. The system is 100% removable.

Everything sounds much better when its on the roof.

Yes it does

I would like to see how you mounted them on your roof if you have pictures:)

Sounds great. Job well done on the vids. We all look forward to hearing more. Welcome to the forum.

Pictures to come! Stay tuned!

Thank you! More to come soon!

These are not the best photo of the mounting plate, but this will at least give you an idea how I’ve built this. More detailed photos to come.

My K5LA is in desperate need of a repaint. Before I do something stupid and kill it, what would be the best way to remove the paint from the horns. I’ve opened them up before to clean the diaphragms so I’m familiar with their internals. I would assume that if they get sand blasted it would be a smart idea to take everything out of them. Mind me for the newbie question, but I don’t want to damage any internal parts and end up with a dud.

Ha… Man that’s crazy. Great pics.

Some people use aircraft paint stripper and some bead blast or sand blast. Just take em apart and do the bells, back caps and manifold. Shouldn’t be too hard.

I wouldn’t sand blast them, you’ll ruin the die cast look of it.

that P5 sounds
sweet and looks
good that K5 look
cool too not to bad
i think they look
good on top have
you tride mouting
them both on your
roof

The P5 I have was glass beaded by the guy I got it from. He did an excellent job and the finish came out awesome. I guess thats the way to go. I just got to find a place that does it.

Thanks!

Great videos & nice sounding horns.
Welcome to the formum.

Glass beads if you’re not into stripping them chemically by hand.

I must sound like a n00b, but what would you suggest. I’ve never done something like this before and I don’t want to damage them in any way.

Thanks for any information you can give.

buy the way 85
ware did you get
thos bad boys from
lol.

eBay. They where put on for $700 a few months back and nobody even touched em. Got em for the base price. For and old cast PO5, thats one of the best prices I ever saw. Apparently it has Southern Pacific heritage.
