It’s a very amateur setup. Currently just a 20-gallon Craftsman tool compressor that can put out 150psi. The P5 sings like a champ with about 90 to save on air use.
I will eventually build a more permanent setup, but for now it does the job.
These are not the best photo of the mounting plate, but this will at least give you an idea how I’ve built this. More detailed photos to come.
My K5LA is in desperate need of a repaint. Before I do something stupid and kill it, what would be the best way to remove the paint from the horns. I’ve opened them up before to clean the diaphragms so I’m familiar with their internals. I would assume that if they get sand blasted it would be a smart idea to take everything out of them. Mind me for the newbie question, but I don’t want to damage any internal parts and end up with a dud.
Some people use aircraft paint stripper and some bead blast or sand blast. Just take em apart and do the bells, back caps and manifold. Shouldn’t be too hard.
The P5 I have was glass beaded by the guy I got it from. He did an excellent job and the finish came out awesome. I guess thats the way to go. I just got to find a place that does it.
eBay. They where put on for $700 a few months back and nobody even touched em. Got em for the base price. For and old cast PO5, thats one of the best prices I ever saw. Apparently it has Southern Pacific heritage.
