Powdercoat? Bedline? Train horns

Hey guys, I’m new to the forum and got a question and need some input on it. I bought a set of chrome Grand General train horns from Iowa80.com. They’re a 3 trumpet design capable of putting out 140 dbs or more.

They’ll be going on my 08 Silverado ECSB and will be mounting them under the box on the passenger side ahead of the axle, horns pointing backwards. I drive a lot of gravel roads and am worried about getting them beat all to heck from gravel so thought about getting them powdercoating over top of the chrome with a black textured powder.

Had thought of getting them Rhino Lined or Line-X’d but knew most bed liners were a type of sound deadener. I think this would be the best route, but am unsure if the liner would affect the sound or not.

Otherwise that spot is going to be my best bet for several reasons…don’t want them in the box to get stolen…don’t want them in the spare tire area since they’ll really get pummeled with rocks there. Not much room under the hood either. Any input or ideas would be appreciated.

As long as no paint or powder gets in the diaphragm area your fine. Not sure about powdering them. I never did a set of those so I have no idea if bells come apart easily to get the plastic or other bits that may melt off. Powder coating runs from 375-400 for baking, before baking there is a burn-off and that runs at 500 degree’s.

Kinda thought that as well, local powder shop quoted me $2-300 for a textured black job…so ya I don’t think so. Rhino Lining shop was closed. But I think I’ll try and do that.

Jeez I better start charging more.

The guy was reasonable on PC’ing the bumper on my Silverado. I think that ^ was a really rough estimate though.

I picked up a used air tank from a semi at a truck salvage yard today, some fittings as well, and lastly need to get a pressure switch for my tank. Should have my setup on pretty soon. I put a set of these same horns on our farm truck at home, love the sound of them and can’t wait to get mine on!

Bumper is easy. Horns with with all the corners edges faraday areas masking sucks. I know I do them everyday.

I had my front and rear bumpers color matched powder coated for $370.00 took some polished k5s just for a clear coat and he did two layers supposedly on them for $75

What would be about right curt?

Bumpers are easy. Polished k5 if it didn’t have to be disassembled I would do it for about 125. Seeing as they have an oven to fit it in there while makes a difference. Not having to mask and formost it being polished makes the job very easy. How much was the polish job or how many hours were spent polishing it?

I did the polishing on it over a span of 8days. Work on it until I would get tired of messing with it, but it turned out great I was very pleased. My brother has stone tumblers and polisher he makes belt buckles and horse tack.
