pressure dropping quickly....

soo i just had my katrina 5 kit installed. Im assuming when the compressor kicks on when i start my truck it will run until its at 150 psi right? Then shuts off. Well why is it that it will cut off at 150 and then i will go into work for a couple hours then come out and the pressure is back down to like 60psi. Start the truck and it kicks on again. Shouldnt it stay at 150 until it is used? Do yall think its a fitting somewhere leaking slowly? I may have felt a little air coming from the top safety blow off valve thing. What do yall think i could do to fix that if i am correct about it staying at 150 and not dropping pretty quickly.

My worst nightmare are leaks. I loose 10 psi a day and i’m not sure if its due to weather or leaks…or both.

But yah its most likely leaky fittings. You can do the soapy water in a spray bottle trick to see which ones are leaking. Also the check valve on the compressor leader hose might be bad so look at that also.

They are pretty much 2 days old. Ill check it out though. Thanks!

I used to suffer leaks back in the days when I had thread tape on everything. I’m sure the stuff was invented by the Leaky Air Company.

Go with Loctite (e.g. 545) or a hydraulic thread sealant (e.g. Pirtek S69). Any of that type of stuff will seal up fitting without leaks if applied properly. They take a while to cure so a bit more of a pain to get the results but it’s worth it.

Now all the above is fittings mind you. If your leak is in the compressor check valve then none of the above will help ya. Run a tube from the compressor suction inlet into a little bowl of water. If you get bubbles there then you know you got issues with the check valve.

Thanks! Ill be working on that this weekend. Hope its an easy find and fix

Good luck, when my system was running I lost 10-15lbs a night, it didn’t bother me that much but 150 down to 60 there is a good leak somewhere, or a bunch of small ones. Check it out with soapy water

Yeah i figured it dropped too much. I would mind maybe 10pounds dropping a night. I just dont like my compressor kicking on everytime i start my truck…annoying!

Wouldnt mind*****

When I had thread tape I lost 3 PSI per hour – which was after I eliminated all that I could find using Snoop.

When I re-sealed with Loctite 545 all leaks stopped. Now the only pressure variations (up or down) that I experience that are not caused by my intentional use of the system are due to heating/cooling/barometric pressure changes, which is normal.

The stuff is spendy but worth the price.

i just installed my horns i had a few leaks i could not stop so i used teflon tape and pipe thead sealer worked great no leaks i lost about 10psi in the past 24 hours but the temperature went from 30-8 degrees i recommend using a squirt bottle with water and dish soap in it

I had bad leaks too. I would fill up at night, and find the tank around 40-50 psi in the morning. I used RectorSeal T Plus 2 because it’s all I could find. Worked like a charm. I only lose around 5psi per 24 hours, and that’s coming from the safety valve. Just remember brass is soft, so don’t over tighten.
