What’s going on guys! New to the forum
Just installed my hornblasters 540 kit couple weeks ago and some people are Happy and some want more, I WILL TAKE MORE!
I’m currently looking for some p5s but in the mean time my questions/help are:
I have 5/16th line and 1/2 inch line… to make it louder like ive read is to change the 5/16 to 1/2 inch???
Also I would like to change the pressure switch from a 150 to a 175 psi… any recommendations???
Thanks guys let me know how can squeeze most out of set up
Welcome! I’m sure you will find the guys on here are very helpful!
As for the change of 5/16" to 1/2" airline there really isn’t a way to do that. The inlet on the horn is an 1/8". In order to change it, you would have to change the inlet and there is no way to change it without damaging the horn.
I would also recommend not to change the pressure switch from the 150 to 175 psi. We run all of our systems at 150 psi. If you do decide to change it, please know that this will void warranty of these horns.
I hope I helped with your questions. If there is anything else I can do, please let me know:)
Good to see another HB rep join the forum again. Kinda figured Angie might have gone to greener pastures.
To the OP… the 5/16 line is perfectly fine for the Shockers, but I should add that the line itself is severely limited in terms of carrying flow over longer lengths. So just make sure you keep the banjo (where it splits from 1/2" to 5/16") as close as possible to the horns so you can keep those lines nice and short.
I was just wondering, what if he installs an adapter at each horn fitting (1/8 to 1/2" ?) and then get a 4 way half inch fitting / manifold to go from the valve outlet to the horns - will that make ANY difference in loudness? Just a crazy thought again lol.
You can’t go from a single 1/2" supply line and then split that to four 1/2" pipes and still expect an improvement. The limiting factor in any case is still the horn inlet.
I think the real question here is - how loud do you really need it? If you’ve woken up one morning and come to the conclusion that a set of Shockers just isn’t loud enough anymore, then you’ve got issues (like a lot of us here; LOL :D), and it’s time to buy a proper train horn… or two… or three.
After looking at the comparison videos, yes there is no other choice besides … K5LA!!! I am far from getting one but in the mean time I’m gonna see what these Shockers can do! If the Shockers crap out on me then its time to upgrade
