Pressure Switch - Which One Should I Choose?

I have Dual Viair 444C’s and I would like to run one pressure switch to control both compressors. What Pressure Switch should I go with? I’ve narrowed it down to the Viair 165-200 PSI Pressure Switch w/ Built-In Relay or the Square D Pressure Switch? Would this work with what I plan to do with my install?

I know some of you stand by Square D but I am not so sure which one to choose. If you have any suggestions please send a link to the page and item#. Thanks.

square d pressure switch… it wont burn up and fry like the viair one… trust me ive went thru 3 of them…

Are the Square D switches just as easy to install? I noticed that the Viair had tabs on all the wires which made it simple to wire.

Also, can I run both compressors off of one Square D switch? Which one do you have?

yes u can run both compressors off square d switch… its fairly simple…its adjustable… its heavy duty as well…
i dont know exact model number off top of my head…

i run my dual 480 off of it and it has never let me down…

Here is the link to the one I could find online: http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/SQUARE-D-Pressure-Switch-2PXH7
Am I looking at the right one? This one is Factory On/Off Set 135 to 175 PSI and Pressure Range 60 to 200 PSI. Does this mean I can set it to turn off at 200 psi?

I’ve been researching the Square Ds.
They have different series of switches, but the basic one is the 9013FHG series.
100-200 psi adjustable shutoff - 40 psi differential - 220 psi max
2 sets of contacts - DC rated at 1/4 HP. I don’t know if that’s combined or for each set of contacts.
They have higher rated models, but the price goes up quick.
I’m personally going to have it control seperate relays so the rating doesn’t matter.

OK I bought mine last night.

FYI - The HP rating is for both poles.
1/4HP x 746 = 186.5 watts
186.5 watts / 12 volts = 15.5 amp rating

got a link to what one I should buy for my dual 444c’s?

Ebay seller has 4 more or Grainger has em.
Type 9013FHG42J59
9013FHG is the series
42 is 1/4" npt female threads
j59 is the pressure code…factory preset shutoff is 175 psi (their highest) but you can adjust.

Just note that these are NEMA 1 - not water proof. And it should only be used to trip your relays. I calculated 15 amps, but Grainger says 10.

nobody seems to have posted this before. just an FYI
from FAQ tread:

Can I use an adjustable pressure switch with my compressor?
We don’t recommend that you use adjustable pressure switches with any VIAIR compressor. If you use an adjustable pressure switch, you can set the pressure switch higher than the maximum pressure that is rated for your compressor, or you may exceed the maximum rated working pressure for your air supply tank. Doing so will immediately void your warranty, not to mention, it is dangerous.

its fine so as long as u dont go over its max rating…its common sense really…

Duly noted.
However wouldn’t you think that a 200psi compressor would be ok with a 200 max psi pressure switch? I don’t know if you can crank the Square Ds any higher…

A warranty is a warranty though.

yeah u can crank these square d alot higher then 200psi… i think i could crank mine to like 400psi if i wanted too…

You must have a different model then…dayum

I haven’t had any trouble with my Viair switch yet. I went threw 2 Air Ride Tech switches though. As long as you run the switch threw a relay, it won’t burn up. Do not run the compressors power directly threw the switch.

Tru dat. I honestly haven’t had any trouble with my barrel switch controlling the relays.
