Hi, I have a few questions about this kit-
HornBlasters Shocker Classic 228VX Train Horn Kit
Does this kit include an automatic shutoff/turn on (regulator) that starts the compressor once it gets to a certain P.S.I?
And about how far away can you actually hear these things?
Thanks for the reply! Also, is it worth getting the next upgraded kit over this one? And if so, what extra parts come with it and how much faster does the compressor fill the tank? (Overall time)
And how long does it take to fill the tank on the 228 kit?
Take one thing for certain: You will always want more air. Spending a bit more on your compressor up front is always a worthwhile investment IMO. Costs you more later on to trade up than to take the leap initially.
The 228VX kit has a 280 compressor with a 2 gallon tank. We have these same horns that also come in kits containing a 325c compressor with a 2 gallon tank, a 400c compressor with a 2 gallon tank, a 400c compressor with a 5 gallon tank and a 480c compressor with a 5 gallon tank. We can pretty much combine these horns with any air management setup you had in mind. All kits come with everything needed except for mounting brackets. The larger the compressor, the faster the tank fill time…the larger the tank, the longer the horn blast. Hope this helps…
Not long. They start fading fast after 2-3 seconds and you’re left coughing shortly after that. A two gallon setup is really just good for giving someone a short, sharp burst.
How many ports are needed for the hornblasters setup and could I easily just switch out the 2 gallon tank with an 11 gallon tank bought from harbor freight for only $35?
You will need five ports:
1: Compressor to tank
2: Pressure Switch
3: Safety valve
4: Air to horns
5: Tank Drain
Now theoretically you can get away with less. Some folks don’t use a safety valve, which I don’t recommend at all, and the drain is sometimes ignored as well (again highly inadvisable). So the minimum you can get away with would be 2 (In, Out, with the pressure switch running off the outbound or inbound line somewhere).
To answer your question on the tank size. Sure you can swap your tank, but you’ll void the warranty on your compressor (Unless you’re buying an Oasis). Most of the single compressors are only rated for 5 gallons. Going larger generally means having to buy twin compressors.
We do have the kit you’re trying to piece together Millions. It is our Shocker 540XL. It has the 5 gallon tank and the 400c compressor with the 4XL (Shocker horns, 1/2" valve, 1/2" hose, 5/16" hose, all fittings, terminals etc). This also has the need 150 PSI pressure switch with relay. Here is the link.
Doesn’t it say sold?
Thanks for the link anyways, but I’m now considering spending that extra money just to get the 540 kit. Bit more but seems like it’ll be worth it.
And whats the warranty on all the different parts in the kit?
Horns have a Limited Lifetime warranty.
Compressor 1 year warranty.
Pressure Switch 1 year warranty.
Not sure about the valve. I would assume a 1 year.
Assuming you’re talking about our Shocker 540 kit:
The horns have a manufacturers defect, lifetime warranty. If the horns are placed facing forward, ran at more than 150 PSI or used maliciously, the warranty can be voided.
All Viair compressors come with a 1 year manufacturer warranty
All other parts (including valve) have a 1 year warranty through us.
