Question regarding tanks

I have an old air compressor set up that was used in a friends shop. The compressor unit froze up so they were going to throw it away so I took it for the tanks (was going to make a vacuum forming machine with it).

I was wondering if these could be used with a Viair compressor? I’d have to cut the two tanks apart and do a little welding to get them to mount properly but I have the tools for that. Just wondering if it would be worth the trouble.

The tanks are the same as what’s on this model air compressor (there are 3 fittings and a drain for each tank. Just trying to see if I can save a few $$:

I see the 130 psi max pressure but that cud be for the compressor that was mounted but can you say whats the PSI rating on the tanks?

Yeah I saw that as well but figured it was more for the compressor, at least I’m hoping. These are contractor grade tanks and they are very heavy so I would imagine they could hold 200 psi. 4 gal. is a decent size and would fit well in my boat so I may just try it anyway.

do it… max psi should be around 300…but stay at 200… ive put 200 in a 150 psi tank…nothign happens

People over pressurize their tanks because the tanks are burst tested way beyond their rating but it’s not recommended, especially as the tank gets older.

For 70 bucks it seems way easier to just buy the proper tank rather than to take chances on something that you welded on. Check A truck wrecking yard where they have DOT tanks if your on A budget.
