So my buddy on Youtube uploaded this. He made a REALLY loud air horn (can be heard for 2 miles on a good day) out of a sprinkler valve, a 1/2" air line and a trombone bell. The solenoid in that is designed for 60 psi and he runs 100+ psi through it, causing it to vibrate and make noise. Intrigued by this, I decided to make one myself. I ordered a vuvuzela to use as the horn part and I ordered a sprinkler valve. Both of them together was about $20. I already had plenty of 1/2" air line and 3/4" fittings and reducers and ball valves so I used those. Lo and behold, I ran 110 psi through the valve with the horn attached to it and it was EXTREMELY loud, much louder than a typical truck horn. What do you guys think?
Keep in mind that the person who uploaded that video lives in a very wide-open area that doesn’t reflect sound well so reverb is never impressive, and he had steam whistles, a siren and a fire bell going off and you could still hear a pretty impressive reverb if you listen closely. It gives an idea on sound level.
